This is a 4.5 star review.
What can I say? Jessica Meigs is an awesome writer! She really hits it out of the park with this debut novel. The writing is crisp, exciting, dynamic, and freakin' scary! Her characters are well-defined, make sense, and interact with each other very realistically. Her zombie mythos has a slight new twist to it, which I found to be fun, and there were some seriously intense scenes that had me gripping my tablet with both hands.

I read the first version of this and it was good enough that I wanted to read the next, but it had issues.

Read it if you love GOOD zombie apocalypse.

I really wanted to like this book (and read the whole series), but just couldn't get into it. I found the heroes of the story to be dull and lacking personality. Considering that the zombies don't exhibit any personality either, all the characters were just boring. Plus, the characters really didn't do much in the story - they went HERE and there was DANGER, then they moved HERE and there was more DANGER. I kept going, hoping the story or the characters would pick up (and maybe it does in later

First in a series. Good set up of characters and world building. Good action and zombie typicalness.
A little too typical maybe. Or maybe I read too many zombie books ;)
