You know, at the beginning Stephen King got famous because he can tell a really good story. This is one of his earlier works, before he was pumping them out like a machine. After reading this, I felt that it was more an allegory about alcoholism and what that does to one and one's family than it was about ghosts. In a way, it's more about the ghosts that follow you around no matter where you go, about being haunted by your own demons. And when it's not about that, it's just really damn scary.

Not really scary but definitely better than the movie, I hated all the actors, at least here, some characters are likable. King never tells why the hotel was like that, some deaths and it becomes a crazy, revengeful killing thing... Not buying it, what's the story behind it? I had high expectations for the climax and felt like Stephen king rushed through the end.
