What Members Thought

This was not a fast read. I had to keep referring to the family tree at the beginning to keep the lineage straight.
That said, it was an interesting and informative description of the evolution of slavery, colonization, and the Civil War that left me with one main question.
Was the slavery in Ghana any worse, the same, changed over time in comparison to America? Which country enabled people to leave slavery and begin a better life?

Powerful novel spanning centuries in one family, crossing oceans and generations. A statement on the slave trade in Africa and the history of race in America. Each branch on the family tree is illustrated with one vignette, a glimpse at how life has changed and how much has been lost forever. An amazing book to teach hundreds of years of history in a short span of pages.
