Bold and original - Lau's use of language is constantly surprising (if occasionally a little over the top). This is a hugely impressive debut filled with vivid imagery and memorable characters.

This is a really difficult one to rate and review. Completely different to anything I've read before.
Highly experimental form. Sometimes the form is too obscuring to really feel confident following the story-line.
Sometimes the chapters feel more like staccato poetry.
Fascinating reading and I'm glad I did, but time will tell if it stays with me.
It's possible that I will be puzzling over this for a while.
Overall, I'm left with a craving for Chinese noodles and yum cha steamed dumplings.

This is a very strange book. I don’t know how else to put that. I’m not sure I could really explain to you what the plot is, or describe any of the characters, but I really liked it. Jamie Marina Lau has a very interesting and unique way of writing, and it really drew me in. Despite being a short book, I had worried that this one was going to take me ages to get through, but it was surprisingly quick and easy to get through.
