Jacobs was a prominent figure in urban studies and has greatly influenced the way we build cities today. ‘The Death and Life of Great American Cities’ is Jacobs’ most notable work and is a great follow on from our previous bookclub book ‘Towards a Architecture’ as she critiques Corbusier and similar urban planners of his time.

Many people have told me to read this book. After I got 80 percent through the book however I had enough. I can certainly see that it must have been revolutionary at the time it was written.

I however found it very repetitive, it lacked quantity solutions, and at times it read as long nagging rant. I wish I could say that I learned something new or insightful in this book but I can't. ...more

it's dense, half of the examples i didn't get (that's my fault i don't know new york) but the other half were really helpful
i have learned a lot and there were plenty of sentences that explain briefly but effectively different matters on the city that have stuck to my mind and that i'll definitely refer to in a future
