The second installment in the Joe Ledger series will leave fans of the first one as satisfied (even more so) as the first, and Maberry deftly shows us he can pretty much write anything. While not necessaily out-and-out horror as his previous novels--namely, the Pine Deep trilogy--his Ledger novels blends action and suspense with a very real and plausible horror, genetic engineering by not one, but two evil factions. While I still really liked this book, I didn't like it as much as Patient Zero. But Joe Ledger still kicks ass and is one of my favorite all-time characters.

While rereading this one I began to realize how annoyed I was by Grace's character...not as a woman or warrior, actually, she was very underutilized as this amazing super soldier throughout the first two books. I was mostly annoyed by the "Britishness" if that's a word, or a thing...it just go to be grating after awhile. Other than that, an awesome second book in the Joe Ledger series...these books never fail to be fun and exciting.
