I really enjoyed Josh Ritter's first novel, and greedily read it late into the night after getting it in the post! I've been a long time fan of his music, and Bright's Passage definitely plays on some familiar themes. Ritter does a great job of capturing the out-of-time sense that PTSD imparts upon those effected by war. I was not familiar with Josh Ritter's music before reading this wonderful debut novel. His lyrical talent flows through the pages of this novel at times humorous, at times as intense as a thriller, at times quiet - every word is artful.
Henry Bright returns from WWI with an angel that leads Henry in to questionable situations, a newborn son to care for after the death of his wife, furious in-laws hell bent on revenge.

A beautiful compelling debut novel. Concise and incisive writing makes this thought provoking story a pleasure to read and doesn't over dramatise dramatic events. Really enjoyed this first fiction read in a long time.
