WOW OKAY I NEED THE WHOLE SERIES LIKE RIGHT NOW!

Brigid Kemmerer is back again with an incredible new series following a Kingdom that's on the brink of revolution and destruction and all the people within it that are trying to save it.

I absolutely fell in love with Corrick and Tessa. They are such well written characters and honestly I could read about them forever. Corrick is top tier book boyfriend material!

4.5 stars rounded up because once again, I stayed up late in the night to finish this one. Thank you Sylvs of NOVELty Reads for the recommendation. This review will remain spoiler-free because I avoided reading any reviews until after I finished and I'm so glad I didn't know anything going into it.

I have read the first two books of the Cursebreaker Series and while I didn't love the 2nd book as much as the first, I still really enjoyed the second one, particularly because I was a huge fan of Gre 4.5 stars rounded up because once again, I stayed up late in the night to finish this one. Thank you Sylvs of NOVELty Reads for the recommendation. This review will remain spoiler-free because I avoided reading any reviews until after I finished and I'm so glad I didn't know anything going into it.

I have read the first two books of the Cursebreaker Series and while I didn't love the 2nd book as much as the first, I still really enjoyed the second one, particularly because I was a huge fan of Grey and Lia. The third book is on my list, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet and since it's been over a year since I read the second book and even longer since I read the first one, I might go back and give it a reread before reading the third book, which I'm hoping to like more than many of the reviewers, lol!

That said, I liked this book even more. The characters are more interesting and likable and the retelling part of the story (Robin Hood) is much more subtle, so the story feels a lot more original to me. As an aside, Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite fairy tales, so Cursebreakers had that going for it, BUT, and this is a big but, there have been so many retellings of Beauty and the Beast that it's hard to stand apart. Have I read other Robin Hood retellings? Sure, but this one managed to create an entirely new tale, at least for me. I loved the friendship Tessa had with Wes and their desire to help the people fight the illness. And I KNEW what had to happen with their story (no spoilers revealed here, but may I say I shouted in triumph when I was revealed to be correct, lol. I loved so many of the other characters, especially Quint, and I hope we see more of him in future books. The villain was absolutely the guy to hate and finding out his motivations made me laugh because it was oh so believable!

This was such a great introduction to a series that I'm worried the second one won't hold up to it. But the characters had enough development in this book that I have high hopes--they are so interesting and I felt invested in what would happen. As the main heroine, I love Tessa, even with some of the mistakes she made (other readers will know what I'm talking about when I said I yelled at her during the riot). What drove her throughout the book was her kind heart and her desire to help as many people as possible, and she was willing to put aside her preconceived beliefs and give people the chance to redeem themselves. I also loved Corrick and finding out about his many layers throughout the book--I feel like there is so much more to him and look forward to peeling back more layers. He was probably my favorite character in the book. But I'm also hoping that in the future books we'll see more of Harristan since he was in the background for much of the story, but it was like he was woken up towards the end, giving us glimpses of what he could be. Quint was an awesome "side" character and I hope he ends up having a storyline of his own.

I can't believe this but I think I just found my favourite book of 2022.

This book featured every single thing I could possibly want in a fantasy. A grey political landscape? Check. A well-rounded fantasy world? Check. Characters you want to cheer for? Check. Fast paced, gripping, edge of your seat action? Check.

It's easy to say I was in love from the very first page and I am currently in DESPERATE need of book 2.

I was lucky enough to receive an early copy from the publisher (thankyouthankyouthankyou)!
It unfortunately took me ages to finish - absolutely nothing to do with the book and everything to do with myself and a massive reading slump and just feeling a bit behind in the world.
But I got there! Every time I picked it back up I was always able to easily slot back into the story and the characters and knew my place and I am forever thankful for Brigid’s writing for this! This was so well wr ...more

Thank you to the publisher for granting me an ARC an exchange for an honest review! To start, I will say that I was a little hesitant to even apply for this one because I still feel stung from her Cruse Breaker series. (Marketing Harper as the lead character and then relegating her a side character oof). However, that being said I am glad I did, I ended up enjoying this more than I thought I would. I give it a strong 3.5 overall.
