The first wave took out the power leaving the planet in darkness. With the looming mothership it was clear that they were being invaded but the aliens are nothing like they expected. Instead chaos ensued people took off for the mountains others to Disney if it was the last days on earth. Cassie’s family decided to just stick it out as long as they could but eventually they were forced into the woods like the others. After losing her mother to the plague that spread across the planet it was just The first wave took out the power leaving the planet in darkness. With the looming mothership it was clear that they were being invaded but the aliens are nothing like they expected. Instead chaos ensued people took off for the mountains others to Disney if it was the last days on earth. Cassie’s family decided to just stick it out as long as they could but eventually they were forced into the woods like the others. After losing her mother to the plague that spread across the planet it was just her dad and little brother trying to survive. They had joined up with some others when the military found them taking her brother Sam and informing them that they would follow.

However before they could follow after her brother her father along with everyone else in the camp is murdered forcing Cassie to flee into the woods alone with just her brother’s bear. Forced to go it alone without being able to trust anyone Cassie sets off to find him. Sam has arrived at the new base safe from the aliens. The military has a plan to create a child army and Sam is the newest recruit nicknamed Nugget. He’s just happens to end up joining Cassie’s high school crushes group but when they are sent out in the field he’s too young. After learning the truth Ben heads back inside to save Sam. Will Cassie find Sam or will it be too late? What about the strange boy who saves her life?

I like Cassie she’s determined and strong and willing to do what it takes to stay alive and get to her brother. We are given her story as well as Ben’s story as he deals with being in the new child army that is going to wipe out the aliens and save the world. It’s interesting to see Cassie’s crush didn’t die like she had thought but I wasn’t so sure I wanted them to meet up the more I got to know Evan Walker. Evan is the guy who saved her after she had been shot by a silencer (Alien) together they form a connection but Evan isn’t exactly what she expected. However I think that it works for them even if it’s not the expected outcome and hope to see it play out in the next book.

I’ve had this one sitting on my shelf for almost a year with the anticipation of getting to it but never really finding the time. I admit I was a little nervous with all the hype about the series I was afraid I wouldn’t love it like everyone else. Well I was wrong it was better than I expected a truly captivating fast paced dystopian alien novel. The author has combined my love of dystopian with sci fi aliens creating an intricate unique story that sucked me in and kept me hooked to the very last page. I really like the multiple prospective it’s interesting to see how things are playing out for both sides of the fence. I liked all the characters finding a way to connect with each one. The 5th Wave was hard to put down I ended up finishing it in one day because I had to know how it would end. I honestly loved every moment of The 5th Wave it’s a captivating book that is well written. I already have the second book sitting on the shelf and can’t wait to see how it's all going to play out. ...more

I’ve had this book on my Kindle for a while now waiting to be read (which seems to be the case most of time at the moment!). What spurred me on into reading this was the casting of Chloe Grace Moretz as Cassie in the upcoming film adaptation. I also just happened to mention to a friend of mine that I was reading this and she was so excited. She loved it and said that there were plenty of twists to keep me occupied. So I had extremely high expectations when I started reading.

The 5th Wave is a tal I’ve had this book on my Kindle for a while now waiting to be read (which seems to be the case most of time at the moment!). So I had extremely high expectations when I started reading.

The 5th Wave is a tale of human survival after an alien invasion. They showed up and at first didn’t appear to do anything but then 10 days later unleashed an EMP blast that took out all technology and killed a half million people. For the 2nd wave they created Tsunami’s around the world killing more. The 3rd wave was a virus that killed 97% of the people left and the 4th wave they used something Cassie called Silencers. There is speculation towards the end of the book as to what the 5th wave is which should be explored in the sequel out later this year.

At the beginning Cassie believes that she may be the only human survivor left on the planet. She’s alone and trying to keep out of sight trying to survive. During a routine trip to collect supplies she comes across an injured soldier who, due to the mistrust which has been created in her by the invasion, she shoots and kills. This has a strange effect on her and as she remembers her experiences leading up to this moment she decides to go and find her brother who was taken by some soldiers to military camp to keep them safe – or so they told her. As she makes her journey she gets shot in the leg by a Silencer and manages to get away only to almost freeze to death in a car while trying to recover. She’s found by a boy called Evan who helps nurse her back to health and looks after her.

This is where things started to get a little confusing. We start seeing things from other people’s point of view all written in the first person which takes a bit of getting used to. It’s here we get to see what’s going on at the military camp that Sam was taken too. We also get to hear from a boy called Ben (or Zombie as he’s later known) who went to school with Cassie prior to the arrival.

As promised there were plenty of twists and turns in this book. Just as I thought one thing, something happened that changed my mind. But then later in the book they would throw something else at you to change your mind again. Pretty soon I was feeling like Cassie – who could I trust? Who was human? Who was a visitor? Were they good guys or bad guys? So many questions that left you wondering right up until the end.

The start of this book freaked me out a lot! It reminded me of a cross between War of the Worlds (which did scare me bit when I was younger) and Day of the Triffids and I felt really creeped out while reading the beginning – going through some of Cassie’s memories. Once all this information was out there it was easier to read – this is only my own personal preference. However, the story and how it played out was great and I think the actions of those left behind were very believable – put into that kind of situation who would you trust?

My favourite character was Evan which I can’t explain fully without giving away a big spoiler, but I loved his interaction with Cassie and how he was able to crack her shell. I can’t to see how this story progresses and how the characters cope with the events at the end of this book. Bring on September!

Lebih ke, apa ya, 'sesuatu' yang ditanamkan di otak alien-mirip-manusia yang bikin dia jadi alien 8duh rumit ya, pokoknya gitu deh*

Di dunia the 5th wave ada lima gelombang serangan yang ngebinasain banyak orang di seluruh dunia dalam hitungan hari. yang bersisa yang bertahan..

Excellent! A real "can't stop reading" roller coaster ride. Hey Yancey, hurry up with the sequel! I think I earlier referred to this book as being post-apocalyptic, but it's really not. There's no "post" about it. It's apocalypse NOW. ...more

Excellent Read! Not at all like The Hunger Games, but very good if you like that genre of read. Aimed at middle schoolers, as a teacher, it needs to be for high school or very mature 8th graders.

I have had this book for years but never finished it. This weekend I decided to change that. I really enjoyed this book about the end of the world in waves via an alien invasion. The characters are interesting and different and the story line keeps you reading on. The 3rd book in the series came out last week which is what prompted me to finally pick this up. I am starting the 2nd book now, "The Infinite Sea." If it's as good as this one, I can foresee going through it just as fast.... ...more
