After knowing about this book for some time, I finally got a copy and got around to reading it. Thankfully, another publishing company picked it up because the original copies were going for a hefty price.
As for the novel itself, what can be said? It's a terrific read. The writing style is easy to follow, the actions of the characters are basically believable in the situations presented, and the research was incredible.

From the look of this book, it was produced and printed in someone's basement without the luxury of an edit or proofread. Still, it was an interesting and quick read. If you like zombies (by which I mean, if you love to hate zombies), you could do worse. Seriously, though, be ready for frequent and ridiculous typos. (I would have given it three stars, but it lost one star for horrible production values.)

It's not World War Z, but it's still a very good zombie novel.
The book is written as the nearly daily journal of a nameless man who survives the dead rising. He's a military pilot who suspects early on that there's a serious problem and starts to prepare to survive in his house. The author is also in the military so he's able to put in lots of details that make the world he built feel very real.

The response to this seems to be quite positive; particularly in the Apocalypse Whenever group where books like this are especially well-loved. With a topic like zombies, and so many people singing its praises, I couldn't resist.
The story is written journal style, from the perspective of a (30 something?) military man, who happens to be a little more prepared for the apocalypse than the average person, both mentally and physically. He is a fairly likable character who doesn't turn into a total a ...more

I had read some amazing reviews of this novel and I would agree with most of them. I have often found that the journal format, while popular in the zombie genre, is often not done well - I often question the reality of the narrator pausing in the middle of a huge zombie attack to write down his thoughts and feelings - but J.L. Bourne does an excellent job. The story is realistic (as much as you can get with zombies running around) and the narrator never got on my nerves.

I wasn't all that impressed when I started reading this one, but it didn't take long before it roped me in. By the end, I was feverishly flipping pages, eager to see what happened to the book's protagonist(s). All in all, I'd definitely say it's worth your while if you're any fan of post-apocalypse stories.

When I initially looked up this book there were a lot of bad reviews on Amazon concerning the grammar and spelling. To those people: IT'S A FUCKING DIARY!
This is written as though a young man is writing a daily journal as the horrific events unfold. This is a great book and a must-read for zombie/apocalypse fans. AND it ends with a sequel in mind! ...more

Felt a bit like reading World War Z meets The Walking Dead written by Tom Clancy.
