Had a great start but then lapsed into a typical urban fantasy romance.

Nora Robert's take on the apocalyptic fiction feels like a mix between King's The Stand (without the engaging characters) and Shadowrun (with out high-tech and orcs). Super disease wipes out the world, while magic and fantastical beings reawaken.

None of the characters felt unique or were overly interesting, I felt zero investment in any of them. The world should have felt new and interesting, but instead felt like a rehash of... well the Stand, but with MAGIC! ...more

I liked the first part of the book, great dystopian theme, but then it evolved into a "fantasy" novel with over the top powers and abilities given to the various characters. Not really the subject matter I would have chosen to read, and, altho it did keep my interest, I most likely won't read the sequels. ...more

I got about a third of the way through. Too much graphic violence (especially against women) and surprisingly foul language. Also, the quality of the writing wasn't very good. Just not for me. ...more
