N.K. Jemisin is a treasure. This book has so many layers I haven't even started to comprehend all of them. I'm already a third into the second book in the series so I'll do a full review when I've read all three. Fair warning though, I started reading this soon after giving birth to my daughter and had to put it down because something happens to a kid early on and it's devastating. The entire thing is devastating actually so, you know, be prepared.

Wow! Really great world building and engaging characters are on this Evil Earth upon which each fifth season is an apocalyptic catastrophe. I loved how she brought the timelines and characters together and will snap up the next one as soon as I can.
This was a tough read. Not due to any fault, but because it was excruciatingly intimate and familiar. Despite being a fantasy world so very different in mechanic to our own, it was still populated by people who were deeply human. Disgustingly human, tragically human, and also beautifully human.
I think a good read for the Game of Thrones set (but not a copy). Just a recommendation if those GoT people are looking for something else.
