Shelves: suspense, ya
This book is pretty much one very long chase scene, with a couple of breaks for the main characters to catch their breath, and an unsatisfying ending intended to force you into reading the next book in the series (a trick that notoriously backfires with me - wrap things up in the main plot line, even if you leave the overarching storyline in suspense if you want me to read on!).

Started well, but got wobblier around halfway through, and turned it into a Hunger Games-style post-apocalyptic Bonnie and Clyde story to get to its ending. So, really, a tonally confusing story. I'll have to read others in this series to make my mind up about it. ...more

After the End is a YA. So, I forgive it some of its more simplistic elements. I'm not a big fantasy fan, but this one isn't bad. I liked the magic system Ms. Plum uses. The pacing is a bit slow for my tastes, but I liked and cared enough for Juneau, and her people to keep reading. Didn't care for the ending. I'm not sure I'd recommend it, but I had fun. ...more
