The "all the adults are dead" trope has been done before, and much better than this. I found the non-names of the characters (Teacher, Mommy, Teddy Bear, Doll) incredibly irritating, the younger ones seemed to serve no purpose in the story at all, the weird fugue states that Teacher falls into when she writes strange things in The Book are never explained, the addition of the messianic political figure seemed out of place in a YA book that leans more towards the Y than the A, and Angerman's obse
