I've had very limited experience with Jack McDevitt's books. My daughter has tried lending them to me, but they just don't drag me in. I did kind of like Polaris, but I really hated the way the female POV character was written. After that experience, I was ready to write off McDevitt altogether. However, I'm going through a post-apocalyptic literature period and Eternity Road is a fairly famous example of the genre.

Originally the odd names threw me, and disinterested me, but I plowed into the book and did enjoy it. Some similar themes, some unanswered questions at the end, but that's not unusual. The later parts of the book went much faster than the initial parts. I'd read it again, so it's going onto my Apocalypse shelf.

A post apocalyptic take on the quest for Shangri-la. Decently written and compelling. The only real flaw is the rapidity with which McDevitt wound up the tale. The trip from the League to Brockton is carefully crafted, then the crux of the story is sped through in the last 30 pages. His editor must have assigned him a hard maximum length.
