Interesting concept, but a bit slow at the beginning where the story focuses on the main character dealing with learning to take care of a human infant. Although the mother is a non-human her struggles are not that different from a first-time human mother so the fell of reading science fiction is pretty much absent. The story gets more interesting about half-way through when the issues of reversing climate change and the creation of the non-human Erta as a means to that end become more central t ...more

This book drew me in initially with a very interesting and well drawn world of human like creations humans made to fix the planet we wrecked and whose first order of business was to get rid of humans. It seriously dragged towards the end and was overdramatic for my taste.
