But why are he and his faithful companion, the often testy male monkey Ampersand, still alive? He sets out to find the answer (and his girlfriend), while running from angry female Republicans (now running the government), Amazon wannabes that include his own sister (seemingly brainwashed), and other threats. The Vertigo team of Brian K. Vaughan, Pia Guerra, and Jose Marzan Jr. have given us a great read!

I was hoping for another Saga experience since the author did and is doing such a great job with it. However I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. Things that don’t really make a lot of sense to me.

One day anything male with a Y chromosome dies, man and animal. Leaving the world full of only females with the exception of one man an one monkey. A plague hits the earth, and all males, save escape artist Yorick and his monkey Ampersand are killed. Political intrigue and girl gangs abound, and the author plays havoc with the whole idea that a woman run world would be a peaceful one.

Sorry, Brian K. Vaughn. You were extremely witty and clever at Comicon, and I totally love Lost, but....
Seriously, Y: The Last Man is pretty vanilla. It's not earth-shattering storytelling, but it's also not awful. You kinda get the feeling the author could do a lot better, which he does. Read it if you like cliches. And monkeys. ...more

(Alas poor) escape artist Yorick and his foster monkey, Ampersand, emerge from his apartment to discover that some mysterious force has messily slain all other carriers of the Y chromosome. Road trip ensues with many more issues to come...
