While this was a perfectly fine coming of age novel it didn't really engage me. I felt the boy/girl relationship developed far too quickly especially since Jenny was such an unsympathetic person. Also, and here's the thing for me as a reader, if you are going to set your story in a dystopic setting then , for me, the dystopia has to be driving the story. In this case I felt that I could have substituted many other reasons for the boy being an outsider in a town, learning to integrate with the to ...more

I’ve mostly been avoiding post-apocalyptic books - particularly books about diseases - this year. (Hmmm...I wonder why? 🧐)

I chose this because it was the oldest book on my TBR list. It was a mistake. It ended up annoying me and I skimmed the last 50 pages to see how it ended.

The 11th plague Is a middle grade/ ya post apocalyptic novel. It is set apart from the usual offerings in that genre by the better than average prose and the air of hope which is weaved through every page. While this book doesn't come close to being as dark or powerful as The Road, if the boy in McCarthy's book had taken over the telling of that story, this may have been the tale h ...more

**3.5** Stars ... BETTER THAN AVERAGE

This is a fun read that requires a stage-2 level of 'suspension of disbelief'. Not because the world-building doesn't work, but because some of the action towards the end is a little over-the-top.

Worth reading.

A good, solid YA post-apocalyptic adventure, complete with survival, teen romance, rebuilding society, and fighting to keep that society. I would have LOVED this when I was in my early teens.

There's not really anything to make this book stand out from the crowd of YA dystopia books, but the characters grew on me, so I'll read the sequel if there is one. ...more

It was ok, as the 2 star rating shows. It's a SCHOLASTIC book, meaning it was intended for younger readers. I doubt I will be reading this one again. ...more
