While this was a perfectly fine coming of age novel it didn't really engage me. I felt the boy/girl relationship developed far too quickly especially since Jenny was such an unsympathetic person. Also, and here's the thing for me as a reader, if you are going to set your story in a dystopic setting then , for me, the dystopia has to be driving the story. In this case I felt that I could have substituted many other reasons for the boy being an outsider in a town, learning to integrate with the to

I’ve mostly been avoiding post-apocalyptic books - particularly books about diseases - this year. (Hmmm...I wonder why? 🧐)

**3.5** Stars ... BETTER THAN AVERAGE
This is a fun read that requires a stage-2 level of 'suspension of disbelief'. Not because the world-building doesn't work, but because some of the action towards the end is a little over-the-top.
Worth reading.

There's not really anything to make this book stand out from the crowd of YA dystopia books, but the characters grew on me, so I'll read the sequel if there is one.

It was ok, as the 2 star rating shows. It's a SCHOLASTIC book, meaning it was intended for younger readers. I doubt I will be reading this one again.
