I loved this book. Yes, I know I am not "supposed" to love books by this author of that famous tween vampire series, but there you have it. (Hey, I even read the Twilight series; I'll admit it. Those were fun to read, but I liked The Host better.)
It might be important to mention that I experienced this as an audio book (free from the library, oooh yeah). I believe I would have rated the text version 4 stars rather than the 5 I have given it here. I feel that in this case, listening to the story ...more

I've seen some reviews say that the reader couldn't get into this book because they were expecting something different.
Maybe it's because I've not read her other works, and don't have any basis for comparison but I've so far enjoyed every page of the reading. Her characterizations are superb, and the conflict between human and alien mind really makes you think. Good and evil are not clearly defined into black and white, more like shades of grey.

This books was really pretty good. It wasn't at all what I expected from Stephenie Meyer. I guess I thought it would be a science fiction "Twilight". The brought up some really interesting social issues and was quite thought provoking at times. It was a little slow to start but about half way through it really picked up and I could hardly

I read a lot of crappy scifi/fantasy books and I found Stephanie Meyer actually made this believable... I mean, technically/scientifically speaking it's plausible and she did a good job at fixing possible holes. The story went a bit over the top, but that's what I was expecting from her anyways. I liked it.

Absolutely absorbing!!! This is a wonderful story with rich, well-fleshed out characters. It's a sort of Invasion of the Body Snatchers only way better as there are no bad guys only the very basic human emotions and vast shades-of-gray. I cannot recommend this book more highly!!!

Mindless page-turner, but I'm surprised this is billed as Meyer's book for adults. Nothing here that isn't perfectly appropriate for teenagers. And I definitely could have done without the not-at-all-subtle anti-choice message.

The movie follows this book pretty well. Lots of rollercoaster emotions. You grow to love both Melanie and her alien couterpart Wanda. An excellent read.

It didn't live up to my expectations. At times it was so slow going, I considered quitting on it.
