I thought ENCLAVE was an great, enjoyable, fast-paced read that had lots to recommend it.
Now it's not THE GIVER or HUNGER GAMES, but it's easily as good as Divergent or Blood Red Road or Across the Universe. The world building is good and wordsmithing is solid.
If I was to pick a shortcoming, I'd say it was that some solutions came a little too easy. But that is easily forgiving as the action is pretty non-stop, and Aguirre wasn't afraid to 'ditch' characters when the 'call of reality' required i ...more

I loved Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax series, so when I saw she'd written a post-apocalyptic book I totally jumped on it. I didn't realize it was YA before I started, but when has that stopped me? Anyways, this follows the story of Deuce, a teenager in an underground enclave where most people don't live past their mid 20s. The story is very dark, gory and depressing. I feel like some of the darker elements where glossed over a bit (like rape and abuse, etc.) I think they would've had more impact if

There are very few things in this book that are original and that what gives this a low rating. I read many YA dystopian novels, which gives you a clue as to how many there are. Since the market is saturated with this genre, authors need to step up TheIr game. The proBlem with Enclave is that it is so generic. It's the same old story told over and over again. I'm not saying dystopian is generic, but there needs to be new re imagined ideas. I thought the author started out pretty good with a soci

really enjoyed it. It met all my dystopian novel needs. Mutants, teens that have to fight to survive, crazy new politics and rules-- who is good who is bad?? Loved it! going to read the next asap

Okay, so I really like Ann Aguirre however this book sort of fell flat for me. I thought the premise was interesting, if somewhat jumping on the apocalypse bandwagon. I understand that this is a YA book but it felt kind of rushed to me. I felt like the beginning was missing a lot, like she was trying to get to the rest of the story without providing a ton of detail on how we got there. All in all it was okay, it was short and maybe that makes it less intimidating for YA readers but I have read a

This was a book recommendation from my sister, Stephanie. We often read the same things and whatnot. I'm glad I finally listened to her and read this book as it was fantastic.
Short read but a good one. Just what I needed to stave off my hunger for a decent dystopian. I like this author's writing style so I will probably in all likelihood check out her other works. It was good. I liked it a lot. Starting the next one now. ...more

Totally entertaining! I will totally read the next book...liked it a lot, but not as much as Carrie Ryan's zombie series.
