Feed is one of my favorite books so I was disappointed that I didn't enjoy the sequel nearly as much. I think there are a couple of reasons for this. Feed really focused on the media. It examined the obligations reporters had to the truth, how the media had changed after the Rising, and basically reimagined traditional media. There was also politics, another interest of mine, though I didn't think that part was particularly well developed.

This time there weren't any politics. Shaun et 3.5 stars.

This time there weren't any politics. Shaun et al. still work for After the End Times but there was no examination of the media this time, nothing new about how reporting was accomplished.

But the biggest difference is the lack of passion. Shaun is very clearly just marking time. He cares about finding out who ordered George killed, but only as a means to an end. She'd be pissed if he let himself get killed before he found out the truth so he has to find out the truth to be allowed to die.

I liked how George was still part of the story through Shaun's craziness. I totally believe he'd let himself become that insane, giving how close they were.

It felt more like a traditional thriller than a zombie novel.

The typical problem associated with the second book in a trilogy - How to top the first one?

Well, Deadline succeeds in part and fails in others and ends up with a somewhat tepid ending.

Decent book two but anyone will guess the final sentence shocker early in the book. I enjoyed book one more but will read book three.

Shelves: post-apocalyptic

3.5 stars, I liked learning more about the other characters but I had to get past my dislike for Sean. Overall, great story, great pace. Will finish the series.
