Post-apocalyptic nightmarish story, my favorite genre!
I'm not at all surprised that this novel was nominated for the prestigious Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a First Novel. The story is engrossing and suspenseful the entire way. As others have noted, the ending was anti-climactic, but for me it didn't detract too much from the overall enjoyment of a great dystopian experience. Started out really promising with a great premise. Some disease or force was causing a great despair and people were committing suicide in droves. More and more everyday until only about 10% of the population remained. Then the Collectors would show up and take the bodies and nobody knew why. Until Norman, and Pops, and Zero set out to find out if rumors of a cure were true.
