Written in 1949, but not nearly as dated as one might think....an eerie portrait of a world decimated by an unknown plague, and what becomes of the survivors. Thoughtful and melancholy, and definitely a classic of the genre.

Unique in its approach to post apocalyptic tales....a bit long in some parts, but since it had a novel approach i will give it 4 stars. See, not everything can be planned out, or anticipated, or has happy endings, or at least endings that you might anticipate. Just....Earth Abides.

Rather than just focus on the immediate aftermath and the crisis itself, the author goes into how nature adjusts to man's absence and then how human society begins to slowly take root again. This novel is great on its own, let alone the fact that it's a classic in the genre that has influenced everything that came ...more

One of my all-time favorite post-apocalypse novels. It is different in that it follows the characters for quite a long time after "the end" of the world. I love the main character's quest to preserve knowledge. A must-read for anyone interested in post-apocalypse fiction. ...more
