Though I would mention this is on sale until the 15th for $1.99 (It is usually $7.99.)
I just finished this and give it a solid 4 stars.

I'm a sucker for a YA dystopian novel, what can I say? There were definitely flaws in the logic of this one (as Karen pointed out - why are all the girls trained at all, never mind so intensively and with all this talk of "trades"? It seems like building that kind of expectation in someone might make them less placid and likely to accept the alternative. Yes, they're taught alternative interpretations of the books they read to indoctrinate them further, but at the same time... at least in Never

It was okay. I've read better. But, it's hard to write a really good, believable dystopian. I did like that it was exciting enough to hold my attention and each chapter was short, (which I like), and ended on a cliffhanger, (which I really like). I will probably read the next book just to see what happens to Eve and Caleb. A few parts were annoying, such as near the beginning the author seemed to be writing Eve as "Mary Sue" type of character. If you don't know what that is; A Mary Sue is a char

Hmmm....trying to decide how I feel about this book. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Okay, here are the elements I liked about this book: It is written in first-person; there is a journey and an awakening that happens for Eve; and there is an effort by the author to delve into the past and trauma the main characters have experienced...that always makes the characters relatable and gives value to their flaws. My issues with this book: cliche, over-used post-apocalyptic/dystopian themes...th

Plot: The population has been decimated by a virus and women are being used as breeding stock. OK, I'm interested. I mean I love The Handmaid's Tale. I even really liked the recent revamp of it When She Woke. So, I'll try this one.
Bad decision. Why? Because the heroine was a selfish snot. I can't read any more books like this. I wish the YA genre would get a few things straight. (1)It is not cool to be a terrible person. (2)Allowing someone to sacrifice their health/happiness/life for you while ...more

I really, really wish GoodReads let us use half star ratings. I really don't feel this is quite a four, but it's also not a three. I wish I wish I wish I could grant it 3.5 stars, but I'll grade in the direction of graciousness when in doubt.
