Gordon R Dickson... one of my favorite authors as a young man. This was a slight departure from his usual sci fi, space opera, alien encounters, etc. "JeeBee" is sociologist/scientist/mathematician, who, along with his think tank members, foresees the crash of civilization. The story picks up in post-apocalyptic America as JeeBee is attempting to cross country to find his rancher brother. There's thin explanation for exactly why the apocalypse has come, "not a bang, but a whimper," ... a failure ...more

Great realistic apocalyptic book. For those interested in survival strategies, personal conflicts, and fewer mystical elements this is a great book.
