I want to start off by saying that this review is coming at a very odd point in my life. A lot of stuff is going on my personal and professional life. Professionally, I had the first review of my book come out. The reviewer said, “Much more than simply a story of adolescence, Gunthridge writes in a voice reminiscent of J.D. Salinger. His accounts cross the generation line. If you have ever loved, you will be touched by this work. He crosses the act of love with the past, present and future brin I want to start off by saying that this review is coming at a very odd point in my life. I can’t help but to feel that the praise for my book comes from the current trend of literature with books like Twilight. I get the feeling that some people are looking for something more in literature than popularity. This is not knocking any popular series currently out. I am just getting the feeling that some critics are sensing the move in literature toward Hollywood blockbusters rather than writers creating great works of literature.
Twilight may not be high art, but it is very good at what it does. In fact, it made me feel inferior as a writer. Most of what was written about my work can be said of Twilight. It crosses the generation line and touches anybody who has ever loved. With the love story between Edward and Bella, you see how the act of love crosses the past, present, and future. My favorite parts of this novel were the parts with Edward and Bella. The action towards the end was good, but I was hooked because of the relationship.
Part of me held off from reading this book. All of the girls I know were wild about it. They kept talking about it. And I have to say that as a man, I have to recommend this book to guys. Here is my reasoning for this, and this gets into what has been going on in my life personally.
I am known for being single. It’s not that I want to be alone. I just haven’t found anybody that I want to be in a relationship with. I haven’t found anybody that has ever affected me the way that Bella affected Edward. But I also believe that a love like this is possible.
I found myself relating to the character of Edward. I could see where he was coming from in terms of the relationship. This book made me long to be in a relationship.
There are various definitions of what great art is. This may not be an artistic masterpiece of literature, but makes you feel like you are in love for the first time. That experience is hard to capture, but it is always worth trying. If there has been a spring in my step lately, it is because of this book. It has made me believe in love. In a way, Edward and Bella’s story has rubbed off on me. While I am alone in this world, their story has given me the warmth of love that we all crave, regardless of whether we are male, female, human, or vampire. I don’t consider this a small feat. That’s why I gave it the stars that I did.

I read this book before it got popular, so I didn't really have the fanbase giving me any expectations.
Honestly, one of my friends was talking about it, so I decided to try it as well.

I did, and I loved it.

Now first, it doesn't take a lot to make me happy, so maybe my review shouldn't be taken seriously by picky readers, but I thought it was a fun read.

Sure, no action came until like the climax and you already knew Edward was a vampire because you read the back of the book, but if you have even ...more

I teetered between I like it and it was OK. I love Edward Cullen! What a man. He can never compare to Jamie though from Diana Gabaldon's series. Sorry, it's JMHO! I was not loving the end part of the book as much as I enjoyed the first 2/3. Bella was an odd character. The way she responded to stuff, but I guess that's part of the book. It was fun though and I can certainly see what all the rage is about. Edward Cullen is the modern superman, I mean vampire! ...more
