Lucien, a self-involved architect who cares nothing for others, greedily takes a job for the Germans for the money and the fame. But both of those bring him closer to the plight of French Jews, until he can ignore the suffering no longer.
I loved and hated characters in this book, the writing was brilliant, the plot engaging. I finished it in only a few days because I could hardly put it down. Here's a novel full of unexpected heroes at every turn, even until the very end.
