[close] A debut novel which tells two tales which interrelate, both dealing with a young stay at home mom in coastal Massachusetts who happens to be a witch. On one level, we learn Allison's troubled family history in flashbacks. On the other level, we see her 21st century milieu of suburban angst and competition. To complicate things, her community is dominated by a coterie of "perfect moms" who bully others but serve as a golden ideal. As luck would have it, there is another witch behind all this- a woman who is more sure of her powers than Allison, but who shares a family connection with her.
Well enough made that the potion goes down smoothly. It does not cast a deep or lasting spell.
