Becky LOL JSWolf... Wow. As amusing as this is, I have no interest in playing politicianesque semantics games with you.

You don't like some of the covers on the list. Sorry. They aren't going anywhere. Good luck with your quest to get them removed.

Trudi JSWolf wrote: "Where did you get that I want books removed or policed by librarians or to start a new list? I never said any of that."

Ah...yep you did, several times (Message 40 and 42):
What we need is a librarian to remove this list so it can be restarted and more librarians to police this list so the bland covers are not allowed to be voted on.

The best idea is to delete this abomination of a list and start over and have a librarian monitor the list and any books that do not fit get removed before they get added.
Lists are meant to be subjective and fun. The idea of a group "policing" the worthiness of a book's eligibility smacks of the worst kind of snobbery and elitism. Cover art is "art" and by its definition is wide open to interpretation of what's good and what's crap.

It's a list for godsake, not the Ten Commandments.

Grace I'm kind of disappointed that there aren't any Whelan or Palencar pieces in the top 200.

Maybe we should start our own list? I do have a google group, but no one's joined (FantasyBookArt)... hint hint

I's disappointed that the Twilight books are here. The covers don't warrant being in a top cover list.

Susan Please join us at http://www.goodreads.com/list/user_vo... -- if everyone adds 5 and votes on previous books maybe we can have a good showing? also http://groups.google.com/group/Fantas... is the google group

Hailea It is possible that people put in covers just because they enjoyed the books but I don't think that this list should be edited. These are what people voted on and who is anyone to say that what they think is wrong. So what if book cover has a photograph instead of an illustration. So what if a cover is simple. Sometimes the simplest covers can be the best and I don't think that it is fair to edit other people's choices.

I agree with you...a lot of these are just photographs someone took. There's nothing genius about a lot of these covers.

message 111: by Avaminn (new)

Avaminn F'nett I disagree with most of these. Random photographs on YA paranormal romance novels aren't my favorite. I think the only YA paranormal romance cover I really like is the one for the Shiver series. Those are very pretty.

At least there's no bad 80's Sci-fi/fantasy covers on here.

Ah, but some of those are the BEST! ^_^

Diana Raabe Is there a way to search or at least alphabetize?

There are many beautiful book covers (some on rather awful books, incidentally), but if you've ever seen the 3D cover of Chang Rae Lee's book, On Such a Full Sea, you've been blown away. It's a simple design, but truly groundbreaking. (It's on my Goodreads TBR list if you want to see a photo.)

message 115: by Venkatesh (new)

Venkatesh Having mastered all the intricacies and skilled elements of several high end software and also having handled a lot of distinguished clients in my past, I feel I can more than just design the cover to your new book. I’m confident that I can bring your story alive and vibrant from the inside of your book to the cover so that the people who scroll through amazon or walk down the bookstore aisles take a moment to actually consider what the cover is trying to convey and that’s 50% of the job done right there. Then, curiosity will make them read the synopsis in the back and soon enough they are buying your books.
They say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” but the way I look at it, the cover of a book is one of the most important elements of a book. It’s true that the plot, the editing and a ton of other technical factors come into play as well, but a person’s first impression about a book is certainly it’s cover. The book cover also happens to be your no. 1 sales tool and to all your new readers, the book cover is what tells them how professional you are and my job is to make sure that people don’t simply consider your book as another one of those glance and forget kind of books but are mesmerized by the cover so much that they are driven to go ahead and purchase it and read it and that’s what we want right?
You can find me and my work here :
https://99designs.com/profiles/2192915
And if you are impressed by my art, do click the, “invite to work” button. That way, I can get to know about your book and what exactly it is that you’re looking for and yes, that means I’ll be working for you.

Tammra Riddle me this, batman.

This is a list to vote for the cover art, right........................ Then why are all the book covers tiny thumbnails?

message 117: by Donna (new)

Donna Davis The duplicate check link is broken.

message 118: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra I added a book to the list, which turned out to be just voting for it because it was already on the list. Annoyingly, the cover being shown is not the cover art that I was voting for.

message 119: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra The rockabilly werewolf from Mars wrote: "Most of these covers are terrible. I can't stand minimalist stock photo covers or heavily photoshopped pictures of people's chests. Everyone knows that Retro-horror-schlock is the best type of book..."

That's a matter of personal taste, and frankly, you sound like you're trolling.

In case you missed my earlier post, the cover that gets displayed on this list is not necessarily the cover that Goodreads voters gave a Thumbs Up. Considering that people can vote for different covers but only get one listed, which might not be the one that got the most votes, I have come to question the validity of having a list on this site that is based on cover art.
