And Changes by Jim Butcher should be up at the top SOMEWHERE. The Dresden Files may not have vampires in it all the time...but when it does, you can call on the badassness of paranormal wizard investigator,Harry Dresden.

I like Kim Newman (Anno Dracula- Queen Victoria marries Dracula), Mick Farren (The Time of Feasting), Karen Taylor, Nancy Collins and Sherry Gottlieb (female vamps who eat when they are hungry, early Laurell K Hamilton (altho heroine is a bit squeamish about sex. And if you want laughs and a bit of romance with your vamps, go for Mary Janice Davidson or Charlaine Harris.

I agree wholeheartedly. We wouldn't have vampire fiction if it weren't for Dracula.

D:
Twilight sucks.
Twilight never shows the real face of vampires. Vampires are like Dracula. They CAN'T be on the sun or they will burn. WTF is wrong with Twilight...."
actually, if you read Dracula...you would know that he does not die under the sun.

Without Dracula there is no Salem's Lot.

If a librarian is abusing his or her power, this person needs to grow up.

The word fangs isn't even mentioned in the books and they are more fairy like than vampires!!!
Illiterate teens, get off this site!

Maybe if you can understand that old writing. i can't.

Vampire Academy series <3
It'll make you want more and more.
Try reading it. You won't regret.
Rose and Dimitri :]

:(

Nowadays, the vampires are looking for a date.

Yeah, zombie heartthrobs are coming.

They don't currently show up in the change log. I'm hoping that they are kept track of somewhere that mere librarians can't access. Some human rectums have been egregiously abusing their power.

fangs is mentioned..and it's a vampire book because they are vampires

Ha! Thanks for that! I agree. Those books ARE awful, but yet they are popular. Just goes to show that what is popular is not necessarily what is good. Case in point - The Twilight Series. I like Twilight, but found myself annoyed with Bella about 75% of the time, and as much as Edward is a fantastic character (as are the rest of the Cullens). As far as vampire books go, there are so many that are WAY better.

Ha! Me too!
I'm sorry though, I pretty much enjoy every kind of vampire story from classic gothic vampires, like John Polidori's Vampyre or Bram Stoker's Dracula, to horror vampire stories like Salem's Lot, to sci-fi vamps like I Am Legend, to vampires struggling with their own human condition such as Anne Rice's Lestat and Louis from Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, and yes, even romance, teen, or fantasy vamps (i.e. - Sunshine or The Mortal Instruments Series). The only thing I can't really abide is terrible writing or annoying characters, which the genre has far more of than I care for.
I don't care how compelling your story is, poor writing is poor writing, no matter how you slice it.

If Twilight is your favorite book series go ahead and vote for it. But if the Twilight Series are the only vampire books you've ever read, or for that matter, if you only read teen novels or romances, you really have no business voting on this list, and you might want to consider broadening your scope a little and try reading some things that are a bit more challenging.
I actually like the Twilight series. It has its faults, but it was an enjoyable read. However, it is not particularly well written and it is far from the best vampire book or series out there.

Or because it contains no moody teenagers...

Then how do you explain the legend of the dhamphire in Romania? These are the rare but almost superhuman offspring of vampires and mortals. Legend has it that their mothers tend to die in childbirth and they become amazing hunters of vampires... but are doomed to become vampires themselves on their deaths.
But damn, even THEY don't sparkle! Otherwise, I agree with the entirety of the lengthy "reasons to hate Twilight" list.

So should The Vampyre by Polodori

Kind of like how in the last book at the very end she suddenly reveals the pack aren't 'werewolve..."
I think it's pretty obvious throughout that they are shapeshifters. That's why it annoys me that New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are on the werewolf list!

Authors that write about vampires are all equals.

Having agreed with everything you said, it took the cake when I read the thing about Light Yagami. If he were real, well, instead of killing criminals, he would be killing crazy Twilight fans.

I have to admit, I do like my moody teenagers, but I still appreciate the good old Dracula.
