No, it isn't..."

I'm a GR librarian, I've been going through and pulling them off. There are a number of high fantasy novels, and back in the 50's (pages) I found a ton of financial books, diet books, and autobiographies!

Donna Davis The system found and removed 6 duplicates. It is lovely to run across a sizable list with a functioning duplicate link.

This is author spam, and I have flagged it. I recommend you remove it yourself before the investigation takes place.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) @Donna
I flagged it too! (and on other Listopia I noticed it).

Bengt-Göran Olofsson Why not the Ivory Carver (Sue Harrison)

message 312: by Greg (new)

Greg I'd exclude anything contemporary: otherwise every single fiction book becomes 'historical fiction' in about 50 or so years. Thus, this massive list!

message 313: by Greg (new)

Greg And just think, in only 50 years or so, "twilight' will be historical fiction! Potter, 50 Shades, etc.!

message 314: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Gao Memoirs of a Geisha and Gone with the Wind don’t count. The former is nothing more than a cabbage cart full of misinformation and character defamation that ruined Mineko Iwasaki’s life. The latter is just a bunch of Lost Cause propaganda.

Agreed on both counts; however, GR protocols forbid me, or anybody, from removing them. If your remark is here because you need to vent, however, you've reached the right librarian.

message 316: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Wild Swans is nonfiction.

Sorcery & Cecelia is fantasy, so is Mirror Mirror.

message 317: by Mary (new)

Mary Meyer Reading historical fiction is like reading behind the history books!

There are a lot of novels on this list which aren't historical fiction....

If you want them on the list, please add them. Use the button at the top of the list.

Jeffrey Gao Memoirs of a Geisha doesn’t count; It’s terribly written and filled with slander. Mineko Iwasaki is a true hero and Arthur Golden is a fraud.

Removing titles from the list based on the criteria you provided would be a quick way to lose librarian privileges and possibly GR membership as well. We don't get to censor the choices of others based on our own evaluations of the work; that is what book reviews are for. I can, however, remove books that are clearly out of genre.

message 327: by Paladin (new)

Paladin It seems to me that a book written 200 years ago, about that time, was not historical fiction THEN, but it is now, to me. It is a fictional account of life 200 years ago. Isn't that historical fiction?

Nope. It has an historical feel to it, but it isn't, just as a book someone writes today about the Obama years isn't historical fiction, but will seem like it to someone reading it in sixty or seventy years. That doesn't mean it lacks value in terms of conveying information about the time in question, of course, assuming it's well written, but it doesn't belong in the genre.

message 331: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Smith The best historical fiction novel I have read this year is Skulduggery by Paul Rushworth-Brown. I haven't finished it yet but I am spellbound by the vivid picture of 16th century life on the bleak moorlands around Haworth in Yorkshire, my home county. The twists and turns? I don't want it to end!
