Diane I've just finished Day After Night by Anita Diamant (author of The Red Tent).
Book is about survivors of the Holocaust who wind up in Palestine waiting to be sent to one of the Kibbutz.

Unfortunately they are kept behind barbed wire fences and some are held for long periods of time. It is a portrait of the post traumatic stress from surviving the concentration camps.
It is an excellent book.

Cindy Removed a few books. Let me be clear, in case there are questions. Books about World War I, as in 1914-1918, are NOT about the Holocaust. Neither are books about the Great Depression. If it's about Hitler or Germany during those eras, and specifically how that led to the Holocaust or WWII, then maybe. Otherwise, just no.

Peter I fully agree with you, Cindy. Many people conflate the Holocaust with other massacres and genocides. The Holocaust is a totally unique event and cannot be compared to any other.

The fact is that there were massacres throughout history and they continue in many parts of the world nowadays.

Tema,
I have not read your historical novel. I have a question though? As your mother survived the Holocaust why would you not write about her true experiences and the facts surrounding her them, rather than turning what your mother really experienced into a work of fiction, historical or not? I do not understand. ~ Elizabeth Danzig-Teck

Laura,
I'm truly confused by your comment above.
There is nothing "fun" about The Holocaust or reading about it.
Am I taking your comments out of context, meaning they were mentioned before regarding another question or topic? If not, I don't know how the words 'fun' and 'The Holocaust' can even be in this thread.

Elizabeth, the comment you are taking offense from is not from Laura, but from some deleted user. So they will not be able to respond to you in any case.

DeAnna I'm so happy that this list was put up. I hope you keep it up after the voting is done. It's a list I've been looking for for a long time.. Thank you for putting it up.

Don’t apologize, there are definitely books denying the existence of the Holocaust (I found at least three) on this list, and, no surprise, they were all posted by someone who obviously entertains neo-Nazi sympathies based on his other readings. I checked because I was horrified.
And they were not books like Deborah Lipmann’s excellent scholarly book on Holocaust deniers; they were nasty pieces of hate.

Brittany Salgado There are many books I have read about the holocaust one of the best book is NIGHT by elie wiesel I got recommended to read this book by a friend

Peter What pleased ME most about this list is that my book is No. 2 on the list, in truly exalted company.

Except:

No. 4 - The Mascot - is considered fake by many discerning Holocaust researchers.

No. 7 - The Boy in the Striped Pajamas - is totally ridiculous fiction. See my prior review of that book.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) The Diary of a Young Girl is one of the most impressive books written during/about WWII and the Holocaust, but to say it is 'well-written', as this Listopia says, is an overstatement. Unless my meaning of 'well-written' differs from the one given in the title of this Listopia, of course.

I would also like to raise concerns about The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum has said the book "should be avoided by anyone who studies or teaches the history of the Holocaust." I would like to remove it from this list. It doesn't teach about the Holocaust and is written to cause the reader to empathize with Nazis.
