Buggie08 Twilight series is my all-time fave paranormal romance books ever. I've read quite alot of those books that are on the same category, but there's just something about twilight saga that makes you wanna set it as a standard as the 'best romance book' ever.

Colette-writer-reader-dork Twilight, really?!?!
New Moon, really?!?!?
Eclipse, really?!?
Breaking dawn REALLY?!

message 53: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct Some of these I don't even consider to BE romance???

❀ ℓu-ℓu-ℓuna ❀ I have to agree with the Twilight series. When it first came and wasn't yet a sensation, it was pretty awesome but the movie ruined it all. I have to say I love and hate this list.
Love it for all the reads I'M NOW LOOKING FORWARD TO... and hate it for it's going to make me go bankrupt AGAIN!! lol

message 55: by Kim (new)

Kim I agree about JR Ward, I have also found Alexandra Ivy, Kresley Cole, Lara Adrian, and PC Cast r up there in top 10 for me.

message 56: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct Nalini Singh is a top 10 for me as well as Gena Showalter and Feehan's leopard series.......

message 57: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct Jean Johnson's Sons of Destiny too!!!

message 58: by Erika (new)

Erika Laurell K. Hamilton is the best paranormal romance writer with her two series; Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, and Merry Gentry Fairy Princess novels.

message 59: by Theresa (last edited May 07, 2012 07:53PM) (new)

Theresa I am definitely a junkie for this genre. I am loving this list and I can't wait to pass it on to my used bookstore to start getting some of these.

I have to say, I wasn't all that impressed with Christine Feehan. I've read the first 2 or 3 and I just can't get into them.

Love Twilight, love J R Ward, Sookie Stackhouse, Outlander...and totally agree about Laurell k Hamilton

Thank you for this list!!!

message 60: by Alice (new)

Alice Interview with the Vampire is the best book on this list. I don't know why Twilight is above it.
Morganville is good too.

message 61: by Alice (last edited Dec 20, 2012 12:01PM) (new)

Alice I didn't say they weren't allowed to like it, I just said that I don't know why people think it's the best. I find Twilight to be kind of boring and I don't like the way it's written. But this just my personal opinion.

And I think they might be counting the Hunger Games as fantasy. Even though it isn't really.

message 62: by Alice (new)

Alice It's okay. :D

message 63: by Amanda (new)

Amanda This is an awesome list!

message 64: by Jessie (new)

Jessie Douglas This says it's a paranormal list, but there's all kinds of non-paranormals on here. I mean, Fifty Shades? Whyyyyy?

Dawn Chambers Jessie wrote: "This says it's a paranormal list, but there's all kinds of non-paranormals on here. I mean, Fifty Shades? Whyyyyy?"

So many sub-genres, probably too many to classify properly. It's not the first time I've seen "dark" romance clumped together with "paranormal." Maybe they think Christian Gray is a monster.

Anyone else a Kresley Cole fan? I LOVE HER BOOKS. I've read JR Ward, Gena Showalter, Diana Gabaldon, Karen Marie Moning, and a few others, but Kresley Cole is my absolute favorite (JR Ward is a close second). Cole's books are smart, funny, and ADDICTIVE.

message 67: by Cristina (new)

Cristina Grant Pam wrote: "Most real paranormal fans would agree that J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood is the best series out! I would add Jeaniene Frost and Christine Feehan as close seconds."

Agreed! If you like those, you should try Ward's Fallen series and Midnight Breed series if you haven't yet!

message 68: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Jas I read a lot of these books and found them amazing. I love the different characters, plots, and authors creative minds that make twists that we would never see coming as the reader. Take 'Halfway to the Grave' for example, amazing book and twists that I surely didn't see coming!

NST Help! Trying to find an eBook. All I remember is that it most likely started with a "K" and was an interracial romance/erotica. The guy was a prince that was ordered to marry an African princess from an Amazonian like tribe to unite the 2 strong clans/tribes. The prince was a jerk and attacked the girl after they were introduced. He thought she was going to dominating, but her nature was the opposite. The girl ran away that night never to be seen again. The girls's queen mother placed a curse on all the men of the offending Prince's tribe. The book cost like $7.00 If anyone can remember the book title please let me know. I want to buy it. it is listed under interracial romance or interracial erotica and I think it may be a paranormal or shifter romance as well. I was up to 2 am trying to remember and find this eBook. Sorry, but all I do remember for sure s the synopsis and that the eBook started with the letter "K." The title sounded Middle Eastern if that can help.
It was a long and unusual name with like 3 letter "K's" in it.

Julianna I have finally started cleaning up this list. Since the list is so long and I have limited time to devote to this endeavor, it will be an ongoing process. There are/were several books on it that do not belong. For a book to be included on this list it must meet the two criteria set forth in the list description: It must be a romance and it must be a paranormal or fantasy story. Please know that I take the deletion of books very seriously, especially after having hundreds of books deleted by a careless person two years ago. In some cases, I have personally read the book in question, and can say without a doubt that it doesn't meet the list requirements. For any book that I haven't read, I did a fair bit of research (reading cover blurbs, reading reviews, checking category listing both here and at Amazon) before deciding to remove it. If I could find no credible evidence that a book met the two list requirements, then I deleted it.

The following books have been deleted. I have listed what I determined to be the primary genre categorization for the book after its title. I'm sure many of these are wonderful books, so if you'd like to vote for them again, please do so on a more appropriate list or create a new one in which it will fit.

For not being romance:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (YA Fantasy)
Fables of the Reconstruction (Horror/Erotica)
Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) (Urban Fantasy)
Switch! (Kingdoms of Karibu #1) (YA Fantasy)
Galactic Energies by Luca Rossi (Sci-fi/Erotica)
Crashing Down to Earth (Part One) by Terry Reid (PNR Fantasy/Adventure)
Stars and Satellites by Terry Reid (PNR Fantasy/Adventure)
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (Historical Fiction)
The Grand Delusion (Manufactured Identity #2) by Heath Sommer (Mystery)
The Last Prophet (Christian Fiction)
The Manufactured Identity (Manufactured Identity, #1) by Heath Sommer (Mystery)

For not being paranormal or fantasy:
Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) (Contemporary Romance)
Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1) (Contemporary Romance)
Born in Sin (Brotherhood/MacAllister #3) by Kinley MacGregor (Historical Romance)
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden (Historical Fiction/Romance)

Thanks for helping keep this list accurate and relevant.

message 72: by Polly (last edited Apr 04, 2014 01:27PM) (new)

Polly Why is Divergent on this list? There is NOTHING in any way supernatural in it.

Just like Hunger Games.

They are clearly dystopian Science Fiction books.

message 73: by Nichola (new)

Nichola Kinsella i so have to agree with message 47 Jess you are so right. this was the first paranormal romance i read but the charachters annoyed me but i kinda enjoyed the idea in the book but when i read BDB and then went on to other series i thought even less of Twilight... was written i think for kids not adults Rant over lol

Thanks for this list. I noticed The Secret needs to be removed and some more books. Divergent is back again.

message 76: by Marla (new)

Marla I wish books that have more votes than ratings or less than some reasonable amount of ratings could be restricted. Some people beef up their votes so their book makes it on a "Top" list.

Julianna, I'm still sorry that someone deleted series books from the list. I wish I had seen the list before that happened!

Thanks for the heads up, Autumn. I'm going to try to work on the list again soon.

~☆~Autumn Good luck with it! I sure enjoyed voting on it.

Julianna Marla wrote: "I wish books that have more votes than ratings or less than some reasonable amount of ratings could be restricted. Some people beef up their votes so their book makes it on a "Top" list."

Marla, I totally agree with you there. I know for a fact that some authors game the system in that respect, hoping to get more exposure for their books. Until the GR powers that be decide to change the rules, I guess we'll have to live with an imperfect voting system.

Thanks for the sympathy. I wish you'd seen the list earlier too. It was a whole lot different two and a half years ago than it is now, but I've resigned myself to the fact that it will probably never be the same again. Some extremely popular books, like the BDB series are starting to make a come-back, but others, like the Dark-Hunters still haven't yet. There are some Listopias that specify to only add the first book if it's part of a series, and somehow, I think the person who made the deletions got the mistaken impression they all should be that way, a very careless mistake on their part. Oh well... at least I heard they had their librarian privileges revoked. Apparently my list wasn't the only one they hit.

message 80: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hardy Gaming the system? :-(

Please forgive me if this is not appropriate to post here. Personally I find it very difficult to find the types of books I like to read, so I often look at different lists. If some people are messing with systems, that makes it even harder to find what we are looking for. I don't know... something is missing from all this.

message 81: by Julianna (new)

Julianna Hi, Ingrid. When I say "gaming the system," I'm talking about a fairly well-known practice in which authors (typically indie and small press authors who have a hard time getting their books noticed) enlist family and friends to come on these Listopias and vote for their books. If a large enough number of people vote only for that one book or place it in the first position on their list, the book can potentially rise to top pretty quickly.

As an indie author myself, I understand why these authors do this, but I personally don't support the idea because it somehow feels dishonest to me. I would love to see GR do something like Marla was mentioning earlier, where a book can't have more Listopia votes than it has GR ratings. Even though it wouldn't completely stop these kind of shenanigans, it would put another layer of protection in there and make it seem more fair, IMHO.

It may be an imperfect system, but I think you'll still find a lot of good books to read by looking at these lists. You might just want to beware of any books that have more votes than GR ratings, but they're still a pretty small percentage of the total books on most lists. From what I can tell the vast majority of books on the lists that I maintain appear to have honest votes from actual readers.

message 82: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hardy Thanks Julianna... Yes it does seem dishonest. And a waste of time, because eventually (it seems to me) people will get sick of being mislead, and word would get around, would it not? I adore Goodreads, but it doesn't seem to be an overly tolerant place when it comes to opinions... Unless I'm reading all the wrong comments... lol!

message 83: by Julianna (last edited Mar 22, 2015 09:35AM) (new)

Julianna You're welcome, Ingrid. There are mixed opinions on it. Some don't seem to mind or are oblivious, but I think savvy readers like us do catch on and avoid those books anyway. Like I said before, I understand why they do, but it does still annoy me. It's tough to market books and not all of us can afford to pay for advertising, so I try not to judge too harshly, but I still think there are much better ways to go about it where you aren't going to tick off potential readers.

Hmmm... I haven't encountered a whole lot of intolerance here on GR, so maybe you are hanging out in the wrong places. LOL! Actually I find GR to be a much more tolerant place than the Amazon discussion boards, which is where I migrated from seven years ago. All my long-time friends who came with me from Amazon, as well as most of the ones I've met since then are very respectful of other's opinions. However, I'll admit that I haven't been as active in recent years as I was in the beginning, and GR has been growing by leaps and bounds since then. With that kind of exponential growth, you're bound find some very opinionated people and rabid fans of certain books/authors who may not be as friendly if you don't agree with them. If you want some suggestions on forums where people treat each other respectfully, you might want to check out some of the groups I belong to.

message 84: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hardy I've been checking out a few of the groups... Time travel romance?? THAT is what I've been looking for. :-D

As for the harshness, I have not experienced any, just the comments that I read on book here and there... a few (a lot) are quite, um, vehement, to say the least! (lol)

message 85: by Julianna (last edited Mar 23, 2015 05:27PM) (new)

Julianna Actually there is a time travel group, Ingrid. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... I don't think it's as active as some of the other groups, but you might find some good info there.

Yeah, I do run into those types of comments myself sometimes, usually on the more popular books like Twilight or Fifty Shade of Gray. Readers seem to be extremely polarized on these books and I'm sure there are plenty of others like them too. I've even personally taken a few hits on my positive review of Twilight. I always try to respond respectfully and reasonably, which so far has worked to defuse the situation, but I know a lot of people get very emotionally wrapped up in their reading material and can't seem to take that step back. Unfortunately, in my experience that's something you'll find almost anywhere you go.

message 86: by Marla (new)

Marla I agree, that the highest emotional conflicts I've seen on GoodReads is on a popular book and on a popular reviewer. The anonymity of the internet allows people to get nasty.

I find the best discussions and most respectful disagreements are usually in buddy reads in a "nice" group. So, I tend to discuss my controversial views in that safe area. (Not that I'm controversial or overly opinionated, but sometimes you don't have to be to draw fire from a cyber bully.)

message 87: by Molly (new)

Molly Rose Bloodlines, Vampire Acadamey, Need and The Iron King are definitely my favourites!!!!

message 88: by bean (new)

bean :) How in the world does THG count as a "Paranormal Romance?"

message 89: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hardy I've never read Kresley Cole... where would be a good place to start with her books?

message 90: by Julianna (new)

Julianna I haven't read Kresley Cole yet either, Ingrid, but she's on my TBR mountzilla.:-) I'm pretty sure the first of her books that were recommended to me were the Immortals After Dark series, which has excellent ratings here on GR. Here's the link to it: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4048...

message 91: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hardy Thanks Julianna! Lol... my TBR is quite mountzilla as well... :-D

Read City of Bones, oh my gosh it is amazing. there is a reason why it's third on the list.

message 93: by Nourin (new)

Nourin Arafa Is Nevermore by Kelly Creagh on this list?

message 94: by Julianna (new)

Julianna I'm not sure if it is, Nourin, but you're always welcome to add it if it's not.

message 95: by Iris (new)

Iris Maree None of these appeal to me. I enjoy good old fashioned romance

message 96: by Julianna (new)

Julianna There are lots of other listopias for Contemporary and Historical Romances too, Iris. Maybe one of those would be more to your liking. Here are a couple you might try:

Best Ever Contemporary Romance Books
Favorite Historical Romance Novels

message 98: by Jessie (new)

Jessie Of this list, can someone recommend a good "ghost" or "psychic" paranormal read? I am not really into Vampires, Werewolves, Shapeshifters and such. I like the Kay Hooper books, but was looking for a new author to read in this genre. Thanks for any help.

message 99: by Julianna (last edited Apr 12, 2017 11:54AM) (new)

Julianna Unfortunately, I haven't read many ghost or psychic PNR romances. The only ones that I have are Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series, which is a mixture of psychics and shifters. It begins with Slave to Sensation. Then there Sydney Croft's ACRO series. The characters in this series possess a variety of supernatural and psychic powers such as the ability to control the weather, a psychic connection to animals, etc. There's also a secondary plot line involving ghosts. It begins with Riding the Storm, but fair warning, this series is very erotic.

I also found the Phantoms series by Kelly Moran on this list. I haven't read it, but it appears to have excellent ratings so might be worth checking out. It starts with Ghost of a Promise.

Here's another one you might try: The Body Finder

If you dig around on the list, you may find more, or perhaps someone else can recommend something. I know they aren't as common as vampires and shifters, but I've seen others books with ghosts and psychics. I just can't remember them off the top of my head.

message 100: by Jessie (new)

Jessie Thanks Julianna. I have read The Body Finder. The others you mentioned seem to romancy for me. A little is Ok but if the book revolves around romance, then I get uninterested quickly. LOL I like scary and gory best. But I am trying to read a challenge book and this is the list it stated to go to for something. I'll keep browsing.
