Sue This is a funny list. "Goodnight Moon" and "War and Peace?" :-) I would put the first in favorite books of your childhood but maybe not a as a must read at least once. Of course, who hasn't either read that one or had it read to you? And as far as Dr. Seuss, I'm partial to "Fox in Socks" myself.

Pfft. The Dinosaur Lords outstrips all of those.

well the Harry Potter series is still going very strong. The books were published over a ten year span from 1997 to 2007. Children, (including mine and my niece who are respectively 23 and 30) seem to still be in love with the world. When they were introduced, I read the books to them. Even after they could read them alone, we read them together. It inspired them and thousands of others to pick up a book and READ. I don't think there is anything more magical, inspiring and classic than that. These books opened a door into the many facets of literature that they can enjoy all their lives. So yes Harry Potter belongs on the must read list.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I read the Harry Potter series when I was in my forties and I enjoyed them a lot.

Last Year of the War perhaps. Definitely not the other one; I’m not touching any more contemporary era stuff.

message 968: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Gladwell Few days ago, I finished reading I Love You Dad by Irfan Mehmood. The first time a book ever squeezed my chest, grabbing hold of my heart. Other books had given me "all the feels," but this was the first time a book haunted me. Long after reading it, I couldn't get it out of my head. I re-read it several times after, even back to back. The story was so immersive and heartbreaking, I wanted to keep the characters with me at all times and protect them. Other tragic middle grade books made me sad or even cry, but I Love You Dad by Irfan Mehmood was the first to leave its fingerprints on my heart.

Christine Jeffords It's a classic, so of course it's available. Besides Kindle, there are many pb editions and even a fancy hardcover. Go to Amazon and search for "Uncle Tom's Cabin" (you don't even need Stowe's name).

If you are a librarian you can edit it. If you are not ask for librarian status and read all the rules.

You cannot save it, as far as I know. If you don't have too many lists (I have over 10,000 lists, so for me it doesn't work), you can try to 'save' it under 'lists I've voted on' (at the right hand menu of the list itself)

Anne Faera wrote: "I skimmed through this list and there are some very horribly written books on it. Like Twilight and the Bible for instance."

The Bible is not a horribly written book. It is the best book that has ever or will ever be written. If you think the Bible is terribly written, then why don't you go read it? Because I can't think of anybody who can read the Bible and think it is terrible because people who actually read the Bible can prove it to be true. By carbon dating the pages you can learn that the prophets accurately predicted what would happen hundreds of years before it happened and the only explanation for that is God told them what was going to happen. You don't have to believe the Bible is true, but you cannot say it is badly written.
As for Twilight, I agree with you. It is terrible series but in no way can it be lumped in with the Bible as if it was equal to the Bible, because it isn't. Twilight is a fictional story about blood sucking creatures that in no way could anyone ever read the two of them and say that they are both as bad as the other.
I would also like to say that this is not meant to be an insulting reply, it is simply my argument against yours. And if you have a problem with that I would like to talk to you about it in greater detail in private.
