i like harry potter a lot and i am obsessed with the movies and all but I don't like the books as much as the movies. i don't know why this is.

I love Judy Blume books. I could read them all day and never get tired of them!!!

My favorite author is Maggie Stiefvater. She writes alot of books. She writes my favorite book called Shiver. It reminds you of Twilight, but waay better. I'm looking forward to the sequel coming out July 20th. You should check it out!

My Favorite other is Wendy Mass and Rick Riordan, their books are full amazing of excitement!

2. I see that some of these books aren't even really YA books. Crime and Punishment? Green Eggs and Ham? Seriously???

I am a 7th great language arts teacher ... I have read GABOODLES of great books, all of which are in my classroom library - as a matter of fact - probably 97% of the list above. I have the following question: Are there any new series out there which guys and girls will enjoy reading? I have all summer to spend finding new novels to put in my library. The Immortal Instruments, Twighlight, Olympians, House of Night, and Vampire Academy books STAYED checked out this year. So I'm looking for series such as those. Thanks! Mrs. B

i mean, i love twilight, dont get me wrong, but i have to say that harry potter is way better. i mean come on. doesnt the whole vampire thing get a little old sometimes? with hp, sometimes it seems like it drolls on and on and never ends but at least it has a continuous story line that you can follow. it seems like the same thing is happening in the first 3 books of twilight. idk maybe its just me but i think that harry potter should definitely be above twilight.

At least Harry Potter takes its mythology (if it is called that) from actual, old stories and the themes are much more substantial. (What even IS the theme in Twilight?). Heck, even the spells have actual Latin roots.

Not to mention the fact that it's actually well-written.

Even my English teacher agrees. :P

But this is just my opinion...

i know! i completely agree with you. the spells actually mean something, kinda. yeah jk rowling is an awesome author. stephenie meyer is ok but not as good as her, i think.

Harry Potter is an AWESOME series - but Twilight is equally so. There is a lot of action and romance that holds a readers attention.

Has anyone thought of an older series in which several books are already out? I am DESPERATE to get busy reading - but do not want to just go buy books - would rather follow recommendations. :0) Thanks!

The only other teen series I've read are the Gemma Doyle Trilogy (search "A Great and Terrible Beauty") and The Princess Diaries.

I recommend them both, although I haven't actually finished the latter. :)

the Luxe series. for all of you people that love reading about girls taking their lives into their own hands in a time when it wasnt seen as proper in society and them defying the rules this series is just for you. it's perfect, i was crying at the end of the series for...well, if you read it youll see. have fun reading =)

im with you on this one, i mean seriously people, twilight is so hyped!!! I admit its an enjoyable read
but not an excellent one. Oh and since when did The Little Prine by Antoine de Saint exupery and charlie and the chocolate facory become a YA book. Who made this list?!?! I swear if i find you ill teach you how to categorize books well by dragging you around a library and making you google till your eyes hurt! ehem... sorry 'bout that

Okay.... I read The Twilight Saga and i liked it but i think there are better stories out there.I love books, on here i have probably read 65 of these books. My favorite author is Lurlene Mcdaniel. Anyways, I am on here to ask if anyone has read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury or Anthem by Ayn Rand. I need to know if there is any hope that i will like these books because i have to read them for school..

I agree.. I think the first 3 books of twilight are pretty much the same but the 4th is good, not because Edward and Bella end up together but because it actually has a story line!

Harry Potter is way better than Twilight 'cause they actually have attractive men! XD Everything is about vampires, anyways. I'm sick and tired of it. Wizards. J.K. Rowling did well with wizards. Lots more ideas and creativity. Great story line. Great charcters. Loved every bit of it. Even if she made my favorite characters die.

All these books are bad :/ I recommend Nailed-Patrick Jones Or Its kind of a funny story-Ned Vizzini <33

So, pretty much, every book that has a movie should be on this list because everyone always complains, "The book is better than the movie!" XD

Are you daft? I mean, seriously. What exactly makes Twilight better than Harry Potter.. Oh and, Caralyn? I've read both.

The Shakespeare Stealer is an excellent book too. As is The Mysterious Benedict Society. It's a shame neither of them are in the top 100.

And Twilight/HP? Seriously, it should be a no-brainer which is better for young adults. Twilight teaches them that it's okay to have an unhealthy obsession with another teen... while Harry Potter displays themes like honor, trust, loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice...

seriously guys? ok think of it this way...... imagine you writing a book as big as twilight. she came up with a good idea too. obviously people like it. i dont think people like you would be creative enough to come up with twilight or harry potter. therefore im not on either side. :)

you know it does have more to do with creativity and imagination. i write books myself and im thinking up some stuff but without that creativity or imagination i wouldnt be able to come up with things. point is both are good books.

twilight is a good book. ITs a love story with some super-natural things. and have all the elements that ties you up with it. Its 1 of the best YA book.

well..... I am a supporter of twilight.. a huge fan of it actualy.

I really dont like Harry Potter. I also really didnt enjoy From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankwell i thought it was boring. But I dont know if its on here and if it isnt, it should be but, the Pretty Little Liars series was seriously great!I LOVED it!

I have to agree with voters here. I LOVED The Book Thief; it is my favorite recent find. But if I'm making a true YA recommendation, I'd have to go with The Giver. It's got mystery, a dystopian setting, an engaging hero who introduces readers to The Hero's Journey theme. Short enough to be accessible to reluctant readers, complex enough to introduce great conversation topics. I've seen this book inspire junior high readers to tackle the series, and once they've done that, they're readers.

Of course, I can say the same for the Harry Potter series. If a child has made it through all of those long, engrossing novels, they can then tackle just about anything.
