I'm with you Maya!!!"
Agreed :) Harry potter is lifee !"
Shelley wrote: "Harry Potter is an AWESOME series - but Twilight is equally so. There is a lot of action and romance that holds a readers attention."
I LOVE Harry Potter! It's my favorite series!!!!!

I know!!!!

And I always thought that the Host was an adult because it says "Adult"
Some of these books are NOT for 12-17 yr olds....
And when we read Romeo and Juliet in 7th grade, maybe 2 people liked it. Classics are not commonly enjoyed by teens.

Teens can still enjoy the brilliance of Dr. Suess. I know I do.

I think the Percy Jackson series is way to repetitive. When a new character finds out that he/she is a demigod they are ALWAYS shocked. They're always like "ohmygod i can't believe this! Both my parents are human!" and it gets tiresome. His other books are like that too. All his non Percy Jackson books are carbon copies of his Percy Jackson series.
The Twilight series is ridiculous. Isabella Swan, what kind of name is that? The reason why our society looks down at teenagers dating older people is not because they look old but because they ARE old. Alos, the description of Bella Swan is like Stephanie Meyer's twin.
Harry Potter is on the other hand, brilliant. No other words to describe it.
If any of you haven't read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, I recommend it. It's not a cancer book, but cancer plays a part in the story.

Seriously? That's the best book you could think of?"
yes ;)"
The Fault in Our Stars and Harry Potter all the way!!!!!
DFTBA

i know right"
What do they see in it??? Do they read it just to fantasize about having Edward Cullen as their boyfriend? Come on, He's not even good looking. It's just the people who magnify his looks.

Who wants to date a guy who sparkles in the sun and is 100 something years old?

Sorry for not clarifying- I meant like Shakespeare and old stuff (in general). The writing is hard to understand, and many teens who don't enjoy reading, but are forced to read those are just turned off reading! It's sad.
We should be able to read books with more relatable topics. Shakespeare and other classic writers (e.g. Steinbeck) have done more harm to literature than good, in my opinion!

Twilight. I despise twilight. I despise the movie and all the hype and everything. It is torturous. So that doesn't give me any more faith in Shakespeare. Anyway I'll leave it at this [I don't want this to be an argument] : You believe he's done good, I don't. That's fine.
Have a nice day. Enjoy reading

I enjoy Dr. Suess too. I simply meant that this list is for books in the Young Adult category. Dr. Seuss is enjoyable no matter what your age, but YA books, such as what this list is for, are enjoyable for teenagers and a few adults.

Pride and prejudice (no. 82) was not written for young adults either, it is an adult novel, not a young adult novel...
I've seen quite a number of others [Romeo and Juliet (no 91), 1984 (no. 93), and so on] that shouldn't be on this list, really, as the description cleary states these books should be written for young adults, "roughly between the ages of 12 and 17".

Though there are fictional monsters and magic and such, I think that the story should be believable in terms of social dynamics, behaviors, etc.
1)Harry Potter is pretty realistic socially-for one, the main characters are not portrayed as pretty much the only ones in the universe. Other people exist. Other people have important things happening in their lives. Like they should. Hermione and Ron are secretly in love with each other, which is hinted to or talked about in every book. SNAPE, for gods sake. Forever in love with Lily. Awwh. BASICALLY, people exist.
In Twilight, however, Bella hardly interacts with anyone but the Cullens. Anything said or done by anyone other than Edward or his family is obviously irrelevant. It is clear to Bella that everyone else is shallow, unimportant, and nothing major that they feel or experience is in the books. Personally I think that since other people had to exist, Meyer used them as a contrast-pathetic caricatures to make Edward seem all the more perfect.
2)in Twilight, Bella, the new girl all of a sudden is the true love of all of the guys in town? Including Edward Cullen, who "doesn't date" and happened to be in the same high school in a remote town on the upper west coast as his blood singer or whatever you call it. Lucky girl. Totally realistic.
In Harry Potter, Harry is awkward and not extraordinarily handsome. His status as the Chosen One is only related to a specific Dark Wizard. He's not Chosen by G-d or anything. His wand, though powerful against He-who-must-not-be-named has no exceptional powers against anyone else. Harry is special in relation to a few things but not EVERYTHING. He has a life. He falls in love a couple times. He befriends and loses a house-elf.
3)Twilight did not introduce the concept of soul mates. Which is fine, but that being said, when dating a guy for a short period of time, after said guy leaves, it shouldn't create such a gaping chest wound in the girl. She didn't really even know anything about him. He was handsome. They kissed a few times. Her reaction was extremely unhealthy.
4)Forgot to mention-emotional realism? A guy you just met climbs through your window to watch you sleep at night and is deciding whether or not he's going to kill you. You respond by....falling in love with him? Frankly most people would be freaked out.
Sorry bye the way-did not edit this, probably sloppy and difficult to understand.
5)Harry's love life? NORMAL! Falls in love with a pretty, older girl. Weak at the knees when she smiles at him or says hi or whatever. Eventually they get together. They break up. Harry realizes he has feeling s for his best friend's sister who's been crushing on him for ages, though she's gone through a few boyfriends herself, having given up on Harry. Harry works it out with Ron. He and Ginny get together. Turns out they really love each other. Practically what with him putting her in danger and leaving to stop Voldy, etc, they break up. He leaves.
TONS MORE BELIEVABLE!
I'm blanking on what else i was going to say, but...yeah.

That is so true

Also, check out Richelle Mead's Vamp Academy series and Bloodline's series. They are awesome!

Divergent is my favorite book! You should totally read it! :)

Maximum Ride series. they're always in libraries. unless you've already read them. They're quite popular.

Yes, Holly. We are on the same side!!"
LOVED THEM!!!!!! i loved the 3rd book best.

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/7...

um. wrong. i've read both too and Stephanie Meyer's lack of writing skill doesn't come close to J.K. Rowling.
You know what? now I think this goodreads list is better than the NPR's 100 Best-Ever Teen Novels list.

Girl falls in love with vampie
Book 2:
Vampie leaves girl to "protect" girl
Harry Potter on the other hand is funny, has imagination and does not include so much romance that makes you want to hurl

VERY true!

They all hid in shame of their sparkling vampire dude that was on Harry Potter. No wonder all HP fans hate twilight fans!

Wrong. Sooooo wrong. Twilight is badly written, sexist, and if you removed the love story from each book you get:
Harry Potter: A boy who's parents are dead, and he goes on a quest to defeat their murderer. and he wins. the book also teaches you about friendship and loyalty.
Twilight: A girl moves to a city where it rains a lot. Even with the love story, all it teaches is that if you are in love with someone and they leave you, it is totally ok to go and become an emotionless zombie for 7 months. (Kristen Stewart did an excellent job of portraying an emotionless zombie in New Moon, just saying.)
And anyway, Twilight copied Vampire Diaries. ITS NOT EVEN ORIGINAL.
K, ive vented. Somebody else take over for me.

They're the worst books I've ever read!"
Same here. I was so shocked when i saw it on the list.

they're so bad. bella is incredibly dull.
"it wasn't obvious that it was a school, only the sign that declared it to be forks high school made me stop."- Twilight, pg 12
what else was supposed to make her stop? the sign's there for a reason

Can u really even begin to compare it to Harry Potter?

They all hid in shame of their sparkling vampir..."
Well I actually think that it's kinda pointless to argue or say either "sucks" because many people love BOTH of thesse books and that proves they are both good. Why waste time trying to convince others what you believe when you could be reading more books. Also the only sex in Twilight is between two married people who are in love so I don't understand how thats porn.
