This list is really poor. Not only does it contain a number of books that aren't young adult books at all, it is full of rubbish young adult books.

Twilight is possibly one of the worst pieces of literature ever conceived. It is the sort of infantile romanticism that is just sexy enough for everyone to overlook the sexism dripping from the pages.

The list is indicative of the sort of average reviewer on Goodreads, unfortunately, the average critic here isn't a connoisseur of literature, rather 13-17 year old girls who read twilight because all their friends did, and then read the hunger games because they were told it was 'twilight but without the shit protagonist'.

Oh dear, I love it when people try in the same breath to complain about sexism and the site having *gasp* girls on it.

I personally think that The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is the best YA book ever b/c it was written by a teenager and b/c it gave birth to future contemporary YA authors. Without The Outsiders, authors like Laurie Halse Anderson and John Green wouldn't exist.

To be honest, Harry Potter should NOT be compared to Twilight. In my opinion, Harry Potter is far better than Twilight any day.

Twilight has no excitement except in the last part of the first book...Harry Potter is exciting all the way through

My favorite books? Dang, that's tough. Two of them are "Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia." They are amazing books that make me smile and cry when I read them, and they give me a deeper perspective.

The Sorrows of Young Werther can hardly be called a book for age range 12-17, as mentioned in the description of this Listopia... But someone added it to the list (and four people voted on it). Same goes for I know why the caged bird sings, as well as some of the other books in the list. I mean, age range 12-17 for these books? Come on....

i never read the books but i watched most of the movies and i'm pretty sure harry potter is better though i read all the books and watched all the movies but 2 im working that :p anyway you get my point twilight sux rotten eggs

I think that some of these books shouldn't be compare with others on the list. I like picks that are judged on the whole series, really. I didn't like the 1st twilight book, but I liked the others, and I liked the whole series of Harry Potter, as well as the series of city of bones and hush, hush. However I would not compare Twilight to Harry Potter or to Vampire Academy books, to me they are not near each other, I don't think of some books YA, if my 12 year old and her friends read them.

The story line of Harry Potter is good, but it's not very well written. At least I don't think so. I think thats way the movie may seem better then the book.

Just read them again ;) it's all in the details you don't notice at the beginning. They are absolutely amazing. So much better than the movies.

I think that it's rather offensive don't you??? If people like them, they like them. Instead of writing what you don't like you should cherish what you do like. I don't think that twilight is that bad :) of course it isn't nearly as good (in my opinion) as Harry Potter (yes I am a Potterhead)but they've got a nice place at my shelve, not that far from Harry Potter

Sorry but I really don't think that people who write "OMG" can be classified as adults. Oh and besides :) Harry Potter is the greatest and most moving and insightful book-series that I have ever read (which is a lot) and that I will ever read (which is probably far more). I feel rather hurt, whenever someone criticizes it, when they ob(...)viously haven't read them closely enough (or even at all). Don't criticize others fandoms or what other people like, because there is probably a reason why they like it ;)

Harry Potter isn't just great books for young adults, they're great for everyone! Anyone who can read on the level of the book anyway...

The Percy Jackson books really need to be higher.
