Annie okay I fin dit absurd that people can actually compare twilight to harry potter....JK rowling created a whole new WORLD in harry potter, and quite beautifully to say the least. The plot in each book is intricately interwoven and the characters are all wonderfully developed and eccentric in their own ways. Whereas in Twilight, the writing is mediocre, the plot is quite boring, and I only found the first book to be enjoyable. While the second and third books were a good read, they had nothing substantial. Bella married Edward so they can have sex, and she wanted to become a vampire because she didn't want to become old... By turning into a vampire, she chose to leave her parents in the blink of an eye and with only a second of remorse.

message 802: by Blessing (new)

Blessing Dickson My honest opinion and no offence to the fans but:
Harry potter is boring
Twilight is horrible.
I want to see others opinions on other books not a HP vs. Twilight fan showdown

message 803: by Helga (new)

Helga Guys, I'd just like to say a few about Twiligt:
1, the Cullens are not real vampires! Seriusly, just use your brain... VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE!
2, Jakob and his friends are not werewolves, they're shapeshifters.
3, Charlie Swan... How could Sephanie Meyer give that name to him?? It's just sounds... like a ballet dencer's name.
4, anyway. What is Twilight about? A girl moves to a town where rains a lot. And the she can't choose between a dog and a fairy(sorry)?
That book's just boring... And the films are absoluty awful. In my opinion. I don't want to hurt anybody. I just told what I think.

Merz Lao how can the stories

message 806: by Akalya (new)

Akalya I've read both Harry Potter and Twilight and i love them both!!
Both the series are amazing in its own ways.Harry Potter involves friendship, humor and family and Twilight involves romance combined by complicated relationships.I feel that people who do not like too much romance stuff tend to dislike Twilight and that's why they prefer HP to that. But I love both and i really don't understand why the two amazing series must be compared as both have totally different story lines.

But I want to put this question for Twilight lovers..How many of you like the series just because of Robert Pattinson as Edward and Taylor Lautner as Jacob in the movies? I'm asking this because I've actually heard from many Twilight lovers that it is the reason.

Your right twilight is stupid"

I can't decide if this comment is supposed to be sarcastic or not, but if not you should probably learn basic grammar before calling others stupid.

message 810: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Moattari As far as I got along the list, these are the books I have read in the past that I have enjoyed. There are many more, and definitely from different genres.i really did enjoy the Maximum Ride series. I would prefer this series to the books my kids had to read in middle and high school.

message 818: by Mo Zi (new)

Mo Zi I cannot believe Twilight is on the top. I've read quite a lot of books listed here, and no offense meant, but there are a lot others worthier to be on the top. The Perks of being a Wallflower, The Catcher in the Rye, The Fault in our Stars, Artemis Fowl..they're all good, better than Twilight Series if you read them.

message 819: by Donna (last edited Sep 10, 2013 08:32PM) (new)

Donna Davis I question the placement of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Goodnight Moon (both on the btwn 930-970 as of this writing). It is true that some students are very challenged, but the spirit of the list is for young adults, not picture books with single phrases or sentences. Also Are You My Mother? #1555. I think there is a troll out there that puts the latter on every listopia.

There are some books here that I love, but am not voting for because I think they are more collegiate material or an adult choice than something I would hand to a random teen, or even very many teens, and say "Go for it!" But there is a lot of wiggle room in there; the students I taught were largely high poverty, and most didn't have English as a first language. So I recognize that some of the high-level material may be accessible to teens at high performing schools, even in this age of receding literacy.

But come on guys...? The Caterpillar book? GN Moon? ARYMMother? If it weren't for the few votes on each, I would use my librarian powers to knock them off the list. With some encouragement, I might anyway, because the fact is, this is not where those books belong.

I absolutely agree with you...the books nearer the top shouldn't necessarily be shunned, and teens should be able to make their own decisions about them, but I definitely feel as though there are MUCH worthier books to be the first things they see on this list.

Mo Zi Aliza wrote: "I'm not being absurd and saying that all twilight fans should go die, etc. but would like to express my opinion on the matter.

You are one person who feels exactly the way I do. Even though I hate comparing Hp and Twilight, and most people bash each others fandoms, I absolutely loathe Bella Swan. She's got no grit, no strong emotions (except for her "undying love") which is a huge insult to female characters who are portrayed in the lead, like Katniss, Tris, or Clary.

And Harry is is more believable. You can actually connect with his character something that you can't find in Twilight books. And also, Harry's not special. It was made clear that he wasn't born as the 'ultimate hero' or stuff, he chose his own path and became what he was, because of his own choices.

And finally, the emotional stuff about Twilight? I get you, sister :D

*comment by an unbiased reader who happens to love Harry potter and hate Twilight through experiences*

message 843: by Mia (last edited Oct 22, 2013 03:58PM) (new)

Mia This whole comment thread seems to be about whether Twilight is any good or not. I think the bigger concern is what this list seems to classify as YA. There are heaps of books that are either too young (Dr Zeuss, Roald Dahl, etc.) or too old (LOTR, A Song of Ice and Fire, or the Sookie Stackhouse books… have you read A Song of or the Sookie Stackhouse books?? The sex is far too graphic for YA).

I suppose this doesn't matter overly, but there are certainly a few books on this list I would not want a 12 year old reading.

message 844: by Faye (new)

message 846: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely choose Harry Potter over twilight. Harry Potter has a great fantasy story in its themes. While twilight is only filled with t girl desperation of becoming one of the vamps who isn't grateful being created as a mortal creature.

message 847: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn I can't choose! There are way too many choices!

message 848: by [deleted user] (new)

To all the folks involved in the Twilight vs. Harry Potter war. I have read a lot of books in my time and I can tell you they both suck!!! If they were read for poop they couldn't get a smell. Personally the best books I have read in a long time are the Hunger Games books, although the last one was a bit hard to follow, they are great and original books. They have a visible plot and are about humans not werewolves or vampires or wizards. I don't mean to upset anyone, I know some people can be touchy about the books they like.( me included). I have nothing against books about the supernatural I happen to also like a series of kids books called Wolfblood. I just am SICK of hearing soo much about these books. Doesn't anyone read anything else? If you do please discus the books other than Harry Potter and Twilight!!! Thanks!!!

message 849: by Tashi (new)

Tashi I don't like twilight but I don't hate it, what's the big deal? If you don't like a book, don't read it but stop moaning. I don't like the Harry Potter books but I don't dis them 24/7

message 850: by [deleted user] (new)

I love the book divergent!
