Your right twilight is stupid"

I personally find Twilight to be a very good book. At first, I was hesitant to read it because of the movies. However, once I read the first book, I had to keep reading! The movies give the books a really bad reputation. The books are very descriptive, and they give you a great idea of what each setting looks like. Twilight is a great novel. So, if you aren't reading it only because of the movies, well...READ IT! Please, read it!

message 952: by Erin (new)

Erin Twilight needs to get off this list; there's no "best" about it. The characters were flat, and Bella was a Mary-Sue. Edward was creepy and abusive, and Jacob was hardly better. Twilight was really just SMeyer's poorly-written self-insert fantasy...

Very True! :)

to quote Stephen King “Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing
what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it
is to have a boyfriend.” :)

Twilight has a good plot, it's just that I can't stand how much Bella love s Edward. I just thought she was a little whinny and too prepared to sacrifice everything for this one boy who will probably be more bad for her than good. Just my opinion.

I too liked the plot of Twilight, and thought it was a good book. However, I have to agree with you! Bella's love for Edward is way too strong! Almost stalkerish, if you ask me. A great novel, however there are quite a few flaws.

message 957: by Uzanom (new)

Uzanom This 'feud' over twilight and HP is hilarious. Who cares which book is better? Everyone has their own opinion.

I loved both Twilight and Harry Potter, some people hate both, some people like twilight more than Harry Potter and vice versa.

If you don't find the paranormal romance thing utterly ridiculous, Twilight is quite a page-turner, and created some very die-hard fans, even if it is horribly written. This is why Twilight is pretty up there.

Harry Potter is an amazing original story by talented author J.K.Rowling. Her ideas are creative, her writing is amazing and addictive. The maturity of the books age with you, so the first book is better for younger children then the last. That's why it's at the top of this list.

message 958: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I like all different genre of books, except The Wizard Of OZ!

I haven't read the WoOz yet, but I've seen countless WoOz plays.

Uzanom Stop being mean! Stop saying nasty things! Remember, I'm neutral here! I liked both of the books!

message 965: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Page Some of these are children's books, like Charlotte's Web, though I see over a thousand people have voted for it as young adult. Some of these books have young adults as narrators or main characters, but are more so for adults (though could be a good challenge for young adults). What a confusing category, YA.

message 966: by Erica (new)

Erica Some of these books don't seem to fit my "idea" of a YA book, but I guess everyone has different ideas about what YA books should be.

message 967: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Don't know if "To Kill a Mocking Bird" is really a YA but it is defiantly a classic. The Percy Jackson series is my favorite overall, it is a great way to get YA hooked on a good and adventurous series.

Bryanna Williams Lolabella wrote: "i like harry potter a lot and i am obsessed with the movies and all but I don't like the books as much as the movies. i don't know why this is."

I agree with this. I love the books and the idea of the story, but I can't get into her writing style

message 969: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Years have past since I first read Harry Potter, and in that time I have read hundreds of books, but none have ever reached me quite the same way.

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship It looks like a librarian deleted a couple of the highest-ranked books on my list. If somebody is going to go through savaging other people's votes, I wish they'd remove the children's books (Ella Enchanted, A Secret Garden, etc. - great books but middle-grade!) and the adult books (The Lovely Bones, The Curious Incident, Pride and Prejudice, etc.). This list is a mess.

You should just stop typing before you embarrass yourself. People can have opinions, what do you like Hunger games? Cool, ITS YOUR OPINION. I am so over all you people.

Maya Ella Enchanted is awesome

message 980: by nour (last edited Aug 01, 2014 12:44PM) (new)

nour Harry Potter and PJO/HOO are not YA, they are middle grade.

message 981: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Actually, nour, we have numbers #5-7 cataloged as YA in our library system, as do dozens of other libraries that we're linked to. (: It all depends on where you're looking.

message 986: by Ester (new)

Ester Pakpahan I Really want to read those books,,

message 987: by Ali (new)

Ali Harper I think Twilight due to the severely bad dialogue and bad acting in the movies is made out to be worse than it really is, minus the fact that the protagonist is a bumbling stuttering submissive idiot and that the hero shines and sparkles in sunlight and has the personality of a potato, it's actually not that bad and there are actually a lot more worse books out there. Having said that, there are TONS better!

Still dumfounded as to how it beat HP.

Well, there's also a lot of abusive undertones with Edward and Bella's relationship. That, and the writing isn't exactly great, either.

message 989: by Ali (new)

Ali Harper Thank God for books like The Hunger Games with strong female leads like Katniss Everdeen to charge the way out of this festering crowd bumbling weepy needy submissive teenaged girls. We need more strong female protagonists!

I agree with you, but I also kind of don't. It is true that most people can't write a book like Twilight, but food critics don't necessarily have to be able to cook. I've never read Twilight but I am currently reading Harry potter for the first time. From what I've heard of it, I don't think I would enjoy reading Twilight, but that's because I don't like the genre. (meaning romantic tragedy). Overall, though, it's a silly thing to argue about. Everyone likes different books. We should all accept that.

What????? Hunger Games is way better than Harry Potter, although I like both.

message 997: by Ali (new)

Ali Harper As much as I love The Hunger Games, it's no Harry Potter. JK Rowling wrote the hell out of those books especially the last three. it's hard to keep a series interesting, particularly one as large as hers (seven books!). Even the spells were derived from Latinate words and phrases. And she had so many characters that we as readers connected to from Harry to Hagrid to Neville to Hermoine to even Tom Riddle at times, and not forgetting arguably the best and most complex character of all Professor Snape! I love the Hunger Games but...Harry Potter was my childhood! ;)

message 1000: by Saruman (new)

Saruman of Many Colours The Hunger Games above Harry Potter? O: I liked The Hunger Games. But Harry Potter is something special. As I haven't read Twilight, I won't say anything xD But I don't understand what Chaos Walking is doing at 158. It should be in 1st place along with HP :c His Dark Materials is also way too low on this list xD
