Anna Seriously? Number The Stars? Matilda? Some of these are CHILDREN'S books, not YA books.

message 252: by Becky (new)

Becky Watts ok ok i think that Twilight and Harry potter are 2 completely different genres of books so there can not be a comparison at all. They are both awesome book series. one is not better than the other some people just like romance (twilight) more than action/mystery (Harry Potter)
J.K. Rowling is a more experiences author than Stephanie Meyer but the stories are completely different there are no similarities what so ever other than they are both in a fantasy world but Harry Potter was based in a way earlier time than Twilight i think that people can relate to Bella a bit more than they can relate to Harry, Harmione, and Ron. None of us are Wizards or ever will be we can relate to the bit of Drama and jelousness when Ron thinks Harry and Harmione have a "thing". Or if anyone has been orfaned and maybe even had to live with people that werent to crazy about them. maybe someone even had their parents murdered and wanted vengance on them. but still that hasnt happened to tht many people and if someone was being locked in a broom closet there are social services that would take care of that issue. Bella is more of an ordinary teen/ young adult. Im sure at least once in all of our lives we have felt ugly or underserveing of our lover. And even a bit self concience. I mean Bellas parents are divorved and she has to amke the decision to move away from everything she is familiar with in with her dad just to let her mom be free and happy. there is alot of typical teen stuff Bella's story allows readers to relate to. Personally I am a huge fan of both Harry and Bella!!! I am one of the crazy dressed up screaming fans at every movie premire for both. My town even had "Harry Potter Nights" Our whole town would get dressed up and eveery shop would be selling something it trubute for Harry, We would do this for the new book premiers then we would all watch the newest DVD in the yard of our court house.

Excuse my crappy spelling :)

message 253: by Smartymardy111 (new)

Smartymardy111 omg thats so cool!! that ur town would just like dress up as harry potter people and sell harry potter things in the stores, and watch movies together in a court yard!!! hahahaha its just awesome! i wish i lived in a town like that! :)

and i guess i kind of agree with wat u r saying, i just enjoy reading harry potter more than twilight. because i feel like i can always read harry potter again and again, since theres sooo much detail in it i couldnt possibly remember everything, whereas twilight its a smaller series and i cant see myself rele wanting to read it over and over again.and i think the movies have kind of ruined the books for me also.

message 262: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Harry potter is amazing. I am so in love with the story I never want it to end. But twilight is damn good too. I think harry potter is just so much longer. there are just so many people you get to know and love within the 7 harry potter books. Than with twilight is touching but by the time u realy start to get to know and love the characters the story is over and then you are just left with wtf. That is it? When harry potter gives you closure. With the 19 years later.

I love harry potter!!!!!!!!!!! Ican not stress that enough!!!!!! I read each book more than ten times, i lived in Germany for 7 months and the library had sooooooo many copies of the Harry Potter books. I had read them before, i started reading them when i was about 5 yrs old. Ieven read them in German. I hated Twilight. I will never set my eyes on the book ever again. It had a rediculous plot. Compared to J.K Rowling's books, Twilight is a childish book with very shallow characters.

Isabel Alyssa wrote: "How in the world is Twilight above Harry Potter???!?!? That's just wrong... I don't HATE Twilight, per say, but the books and the storyline is so weak... HP is so much better!!!"

The characters in Twilight were soooooo shallow. I am a HUGE fan of Harry Potter. I really very absolutely dislike Twilight

message 270: by Alexa (new)

Alexa ok, everyone is way obsessed with harry potter and twilight. has anyone even heard of the hunger games?! theyre like the greatest books of all time! i mean sure hp and twilight are really good, but the hunger games are like 10 tons better. if u have never read them, i recommend them.
ps-theyre coming out with a movie in march of 2012 so read fast

message 271: by Sonia (new)

Sonia I LOVE BOOKS! :D and its mean when people say "Twilight is crap!" or "Harry potter is awesome and twilight sucks" and "Twilight rules! U suck Harry potter" and etc.... you know what i mean right? but I mean really I think twilight is just on there because its one of the new york times best sellers... but still i LOVE both! :D :) :]

message 272: by Andrew (new)

Andrew This conversation is beginning to aggravate me. The Harry Potter and Twilight are designed to appeal in different ways, and each succeeds. Harry Potter was designed for mass appeal, hence JK pulls out every stop. EVERYONE can relate to Harry. He is famous, but he's nobody. He has a family, but he doesn't. He has friends, but he's alone. The split world allows him to become everyone situationally. Twilight was designed to appeal to emotions. It is a much more raw appeal, and whatever your complaints about the iffy writing, you MUST agree that it succeeded fantastically simply because of the numbers of copies it has moved. To say one is better than the other is to say apples are better than oranges or vice versa. A pointless conversation.

again i am stunned at the amazing number of people who prefer useless adverbs, annoying repetition, shameless selfishness and plotless books over some books so fictional yet so meaningful.

the world should worship your kind, you twilight fans are a different breed of douchebags.

Esme go Caralyn TWILIGHT IS WAY BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER AND NEWMOON AND ECLIPSE AND BREAKING DAWN

message 283: by [deleted user] (new)

I like twilight but harry potter was much better (AS a book.)

The twilight movies so far have stuck to the story. Don't get me wrong, the first few harry potter films were AMAZing, but then they started going of the plot. I remember watching the 6th film and was like: what the hell?

But still I agree harry potter is still the best but i prefer it on paper.

Romario i read twilight first and i was like wtf this is the most boring piece of shit. i forced myself to read the whole saga and the second short life of bree tanner.
then i read harry potter and was glued... no other book was better than it. I read so many other books but none were as good as harry potter until i came across the hunger games. it pawns harry potter and twicrap

message 289: by [deleted user] (new)

HARRY POTTER IS THE BEST..no questions asked...
i am reading The Giver though currently , and i think so far its great, love the Utopian Community idea, makes you really think..
Hunger Games..intense, one of those books that keeps you on the edge, i remember being in bed reading till 1:00 in the morning, telling myself to go to sleep but then something incredible would happen in the book and the next thing i knew it was 2:00 am...
About this whole harry potter vs twilight thing..coming from a harry potter fan, twilight is OK, but...let me just put it this way...
"..Harry Potter is all about confronting fears, finding inner strength, and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.." ...so, yup..i don't really know who said that, BUT I AGREE!!!

Chance Shelley wrote: "Has anyone thought of an older series in which several books are already out? I am DESPERATE to get busy reading - but do not want to just go buy books - would rather follow recommendations. :0) ..."

I'm prolly a lil' late in saying this, but if you want books that can hold attention and in which the series are complete, most of Tamora Pierce's novels will do, and then there is Chima's "The Warrior Heir" and it's sequels.
