Comments on Stories For Book Lovers - page 1

Sylvia: I have to run to the library and start reading these. What a grand list. Many I know and haven't gotten to yet, some I missed along the way, sure they're good reads.

The Book Thief!!! I absolutely LOVED that book. Same with The Princess Bride and I Am the Messenger!

Why is Never Let Me Go on here? It's an absolutely wonderful book, but it doesn't fit the list at all.

I did not like the book thief, I thought the writing style was boring and I could not feel for the characters.

I'm with you Jonathan. I feel slightly like a pariah saying that, but I just didn't enjoy it at all! Really enjoyed The End of Mr Y, however.

Oh god, i hated inkheart. How is it seventh?

I really enjoyed Inkheart. Its one of my favourite books! Aswell as the Guernsey Literary an Potato Peel Pie Society. The both diserve a place near the top.

I couldn't finish The Book Thief as I got too bored. It started out GREAT tho.

Loved this list, we've had one quite like it between me and my mom for years, but I fear it just added a host of titles to my already lengthy "to read" list (it already ought to fill my next three years if I go at it one book a week without adding to it!)

Why do I love books about books?

Books about books always catch my eye. The story of the Princess Bride is one that I've read several times. Not just for the fairytale that is Westley and Buttercup, but William Goldings story about it as well. The movie was great, and where I first heard of this tale. I encourage anyone who hasn't read the book to do so, it's incredible.

One more thing, I think the Neverending Story should be on here, Bastien got to do what some book-obsessed outcasts dream of.

Fahrenheit 451 tops To Kill A Mockingbird?!!!!!!!!!! How? I'm sorry, didn't like it at all.

To each their own! And note that Fahrenheit has been voted up because it's more relevant to this list. (Personally I wasn't interested in The Book Thief, but I added it to the list because fits the theme, and I don't mind that it is the reigning champion!)

Read Always Yours. It's a sweet romance, a little exotic but nice. It had me smiling, especially at the end.

I got really excited when I saw that this list exists and that many of the top-rated books on it are either my favorites or books I recently added to my to-read shelf! Also, I was amused by the fact that The Thirteenth Tale and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society are right next to each other near the top of the list, since I read them around the same time and wrote in my review of The Thirteenth Tale: "Another really wonderful book for book lovers (though in a very different way than The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society)." Clearly great minds think alike.

Deleted a bunch of nonfiction...

Amazed that in this day and age people still believe that it's ok to destroy someone else's work just for the simple fact that they don't like it or its material is objectionable to them. My mom raised me to read books, whatever I wanted to I read and I still do. And I work on instilling the same quality in my children whether they like to read or not. It's not ok to ban them or destroy books we lose important parts of history that way.. besides I've read quite a few of these books and plan to add more including the ones read in high school lit class..

hunger games?

read the whole hunger games series and bought it on kindle.. I thought it was great! trying to get my older kids to read it..

wondering why it is on this list?

I'm wondering that about half, because I've read them.When I was in school they were required for lit class... such stupidity..

What about Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan?

Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour bookstore is well worth the time. One of the most amazing books that I read last year. I didn't post a review because I felt it was impossible to review without giving out spoilers. Absolutely loved the book!

Meant to say well worth the time. My OCD kicking in due to the typo.

I read the preview and it sounds super good!

I think "The Storied Life of A.J Fikry" should also be added.

Deleted a few that had nothing to do with books. E.g. "The Hunger Games". Also "Reading Lolita in Teheran" as that's non-fiction.

Me too! I couldn't even finish it! That is really rare for me. I am slugging my way through War and Peace for God's sake, but I couldn't make it through that one! I was so bored!

Those 3 are among my favorites. 13th Tale was read twice amd great book club discussion.

I have a confession...I loathe Little Women.

Did anyone read Library at Mt. Char by Scott Hawkins. One of the most strange books I have ever read. It is even difficult to describe it. I did finish it. Would like to have comments.

one book i recommend is "The Dog Master" by W Bruce Cameron. Discovering the "first dog" One that I didn';t want to end. He is very diverse in his writing style and I am going to read other books of his.

Just finished Little Paris Bookstore. it was quite an adventure.There is definitely something for every's taste. Worth the "read" Janet
