whoever voted on this list has pretty good taste, for me that is. this is all my favorite things to have in a book in one list.

message 3: by Teralyn (new)

Teralyn Pilgrim Garden Spells is one of my ultimate favorites. Can I add books to this list? If not, someone should definitely add it.

~♥*Marianna*♥~ Lol. I do love the Gallagher Girls series but I am certain they contain no magic. At least not in any literal way.
However, adventure and romance they've got plenty.

message 5: by Roshio (new)

Roshio I do not believe the Hunger Games has any magic in it, at all.

message 6: by I am Bastet (new)

I am Bastet I second Roshio's comment.

message 7: by Nor'dzin (new)

Nor'dzin Pamo The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner and the next two books, Queen of Attolia and King of Attolia should be on this list. They are brilliant. Not so keen on the fourth one though, the Conspiracy of Kings.

message 8: by Kogiopsis (new)

Kogiopsis The Hunger Games books are sci-fi, no matter how implausible the dystopia seems. And there's no magic.

message 9: by Lydia (new)

Lydia Strongly recommend 'The Name of The Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss, and the one after called 'The Wise Mans Fear'.
Once you read them, you realise how small and insignificant most of the other mainstream adventure books are. Its utterly mind blowing, extremely well written and cleverly thought about.
It will get your eyes and mind stuck into the story.
Anyone read them?

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

You've gotta read The Ballad of Young Tam Lin. Innocent Lady Janet Dunbar becomes romantically entangled with the dashing Tam Lin. But is he human, or an Elf? And in either case, will he leave his lover, the Queen of Summerland, to be a father to Janet's unborn child - or will he end up being sent as a tithe to Hell? Great writing, and a totally engaging story.

message 15: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Yet again I find a situation where a lovely book ends up on the wrong list. Case in point: 100, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Good as it is, it does not belong here.

Magic? Check. Adventure? Check. Romance? None at all. If you want anything resembling a well-developed romance in C.S. Lewis's Narnia, you have to wait for The Horse and His Boy.

message 18: by Kelley (last edited Aug 03, 2013 09:27AM) (new)

Kelley I've been going through and adding some of my own votes -- because voting on Goodreads lists is fun, I've discovered, and because I have more right to complain about items on a list if I have voted myself. I've been looking for books on this list that have a good balance of the three items. Yet I'm finding quite a few, even high up in the list, that have magic and adventure but almost no romance.

For instance, I question the inclusion of books from Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga. These books have quite a lot to recommend them; they are powerful, intriguing stories. But they are not romantic. No one picks up those books expecting to be swept away by a detailed, sympathetic depiction of romance. That's not their selling point.

And why, in the name of all that is holy, is The Hobbit (Item 440) on this list?? There -- are -- no -- females -- in -- this -- book! Nor is there any homosexual text or subtext. Is it a great book? Absolutely! But it contains not the slightest whiff of romance. Surely we can love our favorite books without pretending they're something they're not.

message 19: by Drew (new)

Drew How does Divergent contain magic? Also, it seems like more of an action book than an adventure. Can someone please remove it?

message 20: by Nenny (new)

Nenny How is nothing by Jacqueline Carey on this list. Those to me are the ultimate in Fantasy and Romance. Jacqueline Carey

message 21: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Dec 16, 2016 05:33AM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I noticed titles on this list which made me go "Eh...?" The title of the Listopia is Magic, Adventure, Romance and the description says "Fantasy novels containing ALL of the above! The way I interpret this is: all three items have to be present in one book in order for the title to appear in this Listopia. Seems I really need to reread some of the books on my shelves, as I wasn't aware all three items were in them. That is of course if Josie, the creator of the list, meant to have all three items in one book, instead of one or two of the items?

message 22: by Josie (new)

Josie I did indeed mean novels that contained all three themes, not just one or two. Unfortunately it's a little hard to police or edit a list containing 1355 titles!

Please feel free to note books you don't think belong, I'd be more than happy to double check and remove anything that doesn't belong :)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Sandra wrote: "Please feel free to note books you don't think belong, I'd be more than happy to double check and remove anything that doesn't belong :) ..."

Judging from the Librarian change log, several people have deleted books already, but without mentioning which books thye've removed. I haven't removed any of the titles I've come across, as it is a long time ago since I've read the books.

Books still on this list which, as far as I can remember at least, have no romance in them, are the Tolkien books. Neither is there romance, in the proper sense of the word, in most, if not all, of the Harry Potter novels.

message 26: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Regarding the Harry Potter novels, some case could be made for “Goblet of Fire” and the ones that follow it. But the first three contain no trace of romance.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I would definitely say that ALL of the Sarah J. Maas books should be at the top :) but all of these are great books!

message 28: by Leah (new)

Leah The Final Empire and The Name of the Wind are great books, yes, but where is the romance? I don't remember ANY in The Name of the Wind and there really isn't any in the first Mistborn book either unless we are counting conversations with characters that we know end up together later on in a series... As much as I enjoyed these books I don't feel they belong here.
