Kim, I felt the same way you do except mine was The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. My daughter recommended his Cloud Atlas to me a couple of years ago, since she read it in her Master of Arts program at UT Tyler. Her recommendations on things I like are usually spot on, and I loved Cloud Atlas. So....
I get the feeling, though, that Arcadia by Iain Pears sounds like it might be similar to Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. at least from the standpoint of different worlds impacting the present.
At any rate, I moved off of The Bone Clocks for this one, so I hope it delivers, and I also hope that we go with it.
All the best, always,
Richard

Doomsday Book isn't about different worlds, it's about time travel.

Correct, of course. It was just that the world of the now and the world of the then were so diametrically opposite, they seemed like different worlds rather than the same world in two different times. Regardless, I am looking forward to something with a hint of sameness but different as well. Anyway, happy reading....
Richard

Been meaning to read something by that author for a long time.
Ach! So close. Come on, Arcadia! You sound funny. Even pretentious reviewers from media outlets call you funny.
lol!
I mean, we just have the chance for someone to be kingmaker here. I reckon I've got a couple months of scifi votes I can reciprocate if Arcadia is crowned.

Haha! I appreciate your scruples, Hank. Though if you manage to convince someone else to vote Arcadia, I will give you a sci-fi vote anyways :-)

This was The Watchmaker of Filigree Street's fourth time on the polls, and I really thought it might win this time. One of my favorite books.
