ladymurmur A combination of picking a prompt then finding a book for it, and reading a book and realizing that it satisfies a particular prompt.

message 2: by Jill (new)

Jill I am really sticking to my plan, but if I read something that would fill the prompt better then I change it. I don't read in order.

message 3: by Samantha (last edited Jan 18, 2020 11:11AM) (new)

Samantha I try to read in order as much as possible but also primary get books from the library so at the whim of what they have or what comes off hold. My week 4 book came off hold and it is an audiobook so decided to listen to that in tandem with reading my week 2 book. My week 2 book is now finished so will be reading my week 3 book while I finish up the week 4 audiobook. I generally am doing and audio and e book simultaneously so it seems to all work out to be with in a week or two of in order.

message 4: by Steve (new)

Steve Right now I’m reading whatever I want. On my spreadsheet, I’m placing possible challenge prompts next to each book I complete so I can go back in a few months and figure out what each book can check off.

message 5: by Bec (new)

Bec I generally pick books for the prompts and put my picked books into a 2020 ATY folder. Then I just read what I feel like at the time from the folder.

message 6: by Sara (new)

Sara I read at random the first year and in order the second. I am going back to random this time. I do have a plan as to what to read, but I am going to get to them as I go along. I enjoyed reading in order but I have an unpredictable life right now and I found myself struggling to finish at the end.

I checked "Picking a prompt then choosing a book to fit it" even though my jar of random prompts is choosing the prompt for me lol

message 8: by dalex (new)

dalex I guess my answer is kind of “picking a prompt & finding a book” but it’s not really that random. I have all my reading (prompts and books) all planned out for the whole year.

message 9: by Bana AZ (last edited Jan 18, 2020 05:26PM) (new)

Bana AZ I'm trying to read in month order right now, but I'm pretty sure I'll be doing free spirit later in the year.

Ana, I feel like a lot of people do that, even without intending to. Our most read prompts so far (according to the spreadsheet) are weeks 1 and 2.

message 11: by Lin (new)

Lin I’m a combination of free spirit and planned. I have a list of books that will fit each prompt but the library spirit has more control over which prompt is next then I do.
I also read a few BOTMs and have a couple of personal challenges that I’ll slot into prompts that they fit.
I don’t read in order but find it funny that the first three prompts are completed.
Happy Reading in 2020

message 12: by EILEEN (new)

EILEEN Match books on TBR list with prompts in plan. If new books come up, modify plan. For example, I had #5 new series prompt as The Rosie Project. Then last week book club decided to read The Story of Arthur Truluv. I hadn't read any in the series yet, so I changed my plan.

message 13: by Jillian (new)

Jillian I picked reading in order though I'm really finishing books in order since I have several books going at once.

message 14: by Ellie (new)

Ellie I'm usually a free spirit reader but trying in order this year...and made it to prompt 5 already. I am not pre-planning books for each prompt so it's a nice way to help me pick what to read next without being too restrictive. But we'll see how it goes when all the new releases start coming out that I want to read straight away...

message 15: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Mod
I go in the order the library gives them to me. If I don't have a library book, I go in week order.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I'm reading generally in list order, or at least around the same order (I might go from 9 to 11 then back to 10, but I won't jump to 28). Generally pre-planning about 3 books ahead. If I really want to read something that doesn't fit one of the next few prompts, I'm just reading it outside of the list. Just finishing up book 11 in my ATY, which is my 14th book in general. Hoping I can keep up this pace!

message 17: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I planned my whole year based on books that I already own or had already rented from the library and pick whichever one of those books I most feel like reading next.

message 18: by Jess (new)

Jess This is my secondary challenge so I am filling in as things fit. I didn't get around to doing any planning for this challenge last year.

message 19: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett I have 98% of the books picked for my prompts but I just pick the next one I'm in the mood for. A trip to the library will switch it up if I come across a book that seems interesting. At times I will switch up my whole plan to accommodate something I really want to read.

message 20: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Blocher Last year, i read the prompts in order and it didn't work well for me. So this year I'm trying something different. I have a book picked for each prompt and then I'm using an app called Tiny Decisions to pick which prompt to read.

message 21: by Emily (new)

Emily Bourque Mod
That sounds like why I went with the jar, Courtney. I pull random prompts from it... it keeps me from having to decide on which book I'll read next and how it fits with the challenge.

message 22: by Cheryl A. (new)

Cheryl A. I am adding BIO using the alphabet for first 26 prompts and then repeating for the following 26 prompts. I am working with multiple reading challenges also so this will be an interesting year!

message 23: by Terézia (new)

Terézia I do have a spreadsheet where I pick books for each prompt, but I found out that I am not so keen on going through with it, so I am a free spirit. During the summer I will add whichever books I have read to my challenge sheet as they fit and then I will decide on my next TBRs.
