What would you do if bookstores became a thing of the past, and we completely switched to using ebook readers?
I'd throw a protest! I could never live in a world without REAL books!
I don't think that will ever happen.
I'd find ways to track down some paperbacks, and hardcovers, but would mostly use the ebook reader.
I would LOVE it! Ebooks are better, and they are more convenient.
Eh, there would always be libraries so I wouldn't care!
I'd stop reading.

That's not creepy. I love the smell of books too! I think it's because we associate the smell with reading aka our favorite pastime. :)

I'm the exact same. I love the smell of a new book!!!

Are you talking only about independent bookstores selling new books, not chains and Walmart?
What about ordering from publishers? Would small publishers be forced to only sell online or go out of business?
Libraries would be seriously affected - prices would go up and what they could chose from might only be "best sellers" from a few publishers.
What about audiobooks?
It's a very complicated issue to consider.

I don't understand why people always assume that the end of technology is to completely alter a thing for which humans have a feel. The more likely end is for someone who's gifted enough to make something like I just described, because that would satisfy a human tactile need while making use of the advantages of technology. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

E-books are just a matter of preference and are not for everyone. I love going on vacation and not having to worry if my luggage is going to cost more because I packed too many books, or the ability to download a book that happens to peak my interest at that moment. There are pros and cons, just like anything else. I also happen to buy DTB (dead tree books) when they are on sale or if I happen to want to add one to my collection. Again, it is a matter of personal preference.....think about the trees you are saving also.

Maybe you should invent it! :)

I prefer printed books, but...I like the idea of an ebook reader. I enjoy the fact that it can store so many books in such a small package. It's convient to carry in my purse. However, I will always prefer printed books for my collectables. :)

I LOVE that idea! Know anyone who's technologically inclined?

There are several like that, that will be available this Holiday season or early next year. It has a front and back "cover" which are both screens so that you can read it like a book. It will also be less expensive then the Kindle or any other device. The first one is by Infinite Book Concept and it is actually several pages (as you asked for)...here is the link if you are interested.

The other one I was talking about is by Asus and will be about 160. The link for that one is below...

i hope that helps! Happy Reading!

The second one only costs $163, which is cheaper than a lot of current ebook readers. Huh...Is anyone going to buy it?

Actually, as much as the Asus appeals to me (not only price wise but because of the full color screens) I will probably purchase the Nook from Barnes and Noble. It has dual screens on the one page. One larger one for reading and a small color screen below for the menu etc. It has more to it then the Kindle (which is still over priced for what it is in my opinion) and it can be held in one hand where as the Asus cannot. But I am still browsing the ebook market and I am not convinced that this is the best out there yet. I know if I can be patient for another six months something mind blowing will hit the market and it will be the mother of all ebooks. So...not sure WHEN I will purchase, but I WILL purchase one. It won't replace paper books, mainly I just want to get all of my newspapers and magazines on it as well as whatever "free" downloadable books is being offered for the week etc.

The Nook is my favorite one too! I was so excited when I got an email from Barnes and Noble telling me about it. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping someone gets it for me as an xmas gift, but if they don't I'll end up buying it for myself next year...

lol. You and me both! bUT, if you don't get it maybe wait a little. There are A LOT of ebooks coming out and each one will be better then the last and less expensive! As it is, I am beginning to question the nook's lack of a keyboard like the kindle has. Does that mean on the nook you have to keep scrolling until you get to, say Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak? I am going to my local BAN to look for myself.
Now that I am getting really used to my "Nook", I am beginning to like reading with an e-reader more! I still get that occasional urge to read a real book, but most of the time I prefer using my e-reader.
