HISTORICAL FICTION POLL "A"
There will be a series of polls to begin putting together a potential reading list for the "historical fiction folder". I have divided the books into groups of 15 books apiece. Make sure to choose your favorite from each poll and make sure to vote in each of these polls so that we can generate a list according to priorities and interests.

You are correct. Let us see how it does here; I will place it on the non fiction list with the number of votes it garners.
Wow, what a list - but how could I ever vote for just one? Pasternak, Dickens, Corneille, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Hugo, Scott, Shaara etc. They're all masters and I don't want to compare or judge them. They all have to be read.
What I could do is skip one, Ben Hur. Too much religious pathos for my taste.

Way to difficult... but i did force myself to pick one. I don't read fiction much at all but i was very surprised that I had read nearly all of these.
James...I am not a big historical fiction person either..but there are many who do like it....so we have a folder devoted to it. We are primarily a non fiction group.
I just took what I thought was going to be a glance at Killer Angels and honestly I could not put it down. I try to read all of the offerings in my group which sometimes is challenging.
Being that the holiday season is upon us, I thought I would read a chapter or two to see what I thought.. I have discovered that it is one of those books which you can't put down.
I think it is very well done for what it is. I had not read this one and had read many of the other choices.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I have read probably 30 non-fiction books on the battle of Gettysburg before I read the Killer Angels and everything about it seemed to fit so well. The dialog was exactly what I expected. So to me, the surprise was how much I enjoyed reading this as opposed to straight non-fiction. I guess if Shara has done one thing out of context I would have stopped but that didn't happen.

Same here James...great book. And I also do not usually read historical fiction.

Well it looks like you will get a chance to reread it if you like...it is the top vote getter.

Unfortunately Vince..you must of tried to vote when the voting had ended. Usually, there is a two week window to vote so make sure to do it as soon as possible.
