Those were my thoughts exactly! Usually there is one clear choice for me, maybe a couple of strong interest, but this round is really tough.

Being new to goodreads and this group, I chose a book I hadn't read, "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" as it's currently sitting on my to-read shelf. I've never read anything by Heinlein.
Looking forward to actually participating in one of the monthly reads!

I however voted for Cat's Cradle, as I've been wanting to finally read it for quite a while.

I believe that Atwood would claim that its literature. Science Fiction is to certain literary types typically looked down upon, as merely genre fiction.
Oh how little they know

Yeah. That strikes me as a very close-minded attitude. Though I guess the author has the right to call her work whatever she likes. :)

Just finished Oryx & Crake but the others I havent read.

but the mount has been on my tbr pile for a good while now, and it looks way intriguing...

As for your concerns, Kim, thanks for sharing them with us again. Sometimes, yes, we are quite late (mostly due to busy lives, I imagine, at least that's my excuse), but there are plenty of times when we're not. Both the September Sci-Fi poll and the October Fantasy poll were completed in advance, and the Modesitt polls are already planned and will be opening in the first week of October, which will give us the bulk of the month to track down the books. And don't forget that there is no deadline on when you can jump into the discussion. While I understand that most people probably like to be part of the discussion right from the off, one can still come to a discussion later on and make a significant contribution. In fact, late comers are one of the best things to keep a discussion flowing all month. So if you're not able to get and read the book until later in the month, don't be shy...come and join a discussion anyway.

Seriously?! Wow. I thought that was a list that would have a little something for everyone.

I voted, but it was a toss up - I would be pleased to read any of the others listed :)

I voted for "Woman on the Edge of Time" because the synopsis looks interesting to me. I am currently trying to read Game of Thrones, though, before the tv show starts!

I'll gladly go hunting for the Dune thread. FYI there's a possibility of yet another remake in the works movie-wise too. Some time in 2011 or 12!

I am still hearing vague rumors of a third collection of Dangerous Visions, too."
There's a second Dangerous Visions but it may not include works by the same authors.
