Kevin Xu I did not like Honor Harrington, so I am have to go with Dresden.

message 2: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu Hopefully I will be finished with Ghost Story before the group discussion starts.

message 3: by Jon (new)

Jon I do not like Harry, so I'm voting for Honor. :)

message 4: by Candiss (new)

Candiss I read the first Dresden Files book, and while I enjoyed it to an extent, I found it largely predictable. I liked Harry D. well enough and found his attitude amusing and his actions surprisingly believable, but there were a number of instances where I found myself rolling my eyes at (what I consider to be) lazy copy-editing mistakes and repetitive language (whole phrases used again at times.) Yes, I'm picky about language.

On the other hand, when I read the first few chapters from the first Honorverse title, I found the writing taught and intricate, and I really liked the main character. Plus I tend to shy away from military sf, so if a series in that sub-genre manages to catch my attention, I have to roll with it. So my vote goes to David Weber.

message 5: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Mod
I'm not into urban fantasy, and I've always been interested in the Honor Harrington series, so the choice is easy for me. Plus I've got all the books sitting on my iPad, ready to go!

message 6: by Snail in Danger (Sid) (last edited Jul 10, 2011 01:20PM) (new)

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides I read the first Dresden Files books ages ago (when it was new, or new-ish) and it felt like a pale homage to Raymond Chandler. So I'm going with Honor. I feel like those got less interesting as the series went on, but at least they were interesting at the beginning. (Or maybe not. We're creeping up on 20 years ago that I read On Basilisk Station and a few of the following books, eek. More recently I've read some of the later books and not felt terribly impressed/intrigued/whatever.)

message 7: by orannia (new)

orannia I've been wanting to read the Harry Dresden books for a while, so I've voted for them. Not sure if I'll keep up with the series read though - keeping up with the WOLAS books almost drove me...more crazy than I am now :)

message 8: by Jim (new)

Jim I made it through 8 or 9 Honor books a couple of times & still like them. I've never been tempted to re-read the Dresden books & only made it through the 6th so far. I almost tossed that because of errors.

message 9: by Sandi (new)

Sandi I love the Dresden Files, but I'm not a re-reader, especially with a long series. I already have the first two Honor Harrington books in audio on my iPod and can read the rest on my Nook.

message 10: by Kathi (new)

Kathi Mod
I've got most of the Dresden Files so that's my choice.

message 11: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Hollyberry I read a Dresden Files short story in Strange Brew and thought it was meh (as a Chandler fan and an urban fantasy fan). I have been meaning to read Honor Harrington. I love Elizabeth Moon's military sci fi w/ women heroes and I am getting into Tanya Huff's ditto.

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda I've just finished Changes not that long ago so I'm voting for Honor Harrington as it's been a tad bit longer since I've read those.

message 13: by Random (new)

Random I voted for the Honor books for a few reasons. First, I tried the first five Dresden books and wasn't all that impressed. Also my husband has been bugging me to read these for years. Finally, I like the idea of swapping back and forth between Sci-Fi and Fantasy on the series discussions.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I have voted for Honor serie because I really want to discuss this übercharacter with some other readers :D. I have read the first book in Dresden files and four of Honorverse. That has to mean something.

message 15: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K I read the first few Honor books, and IMO thought the quality really decreased as they progressed. Dresden seemed to improve with each one, and I stayed interested all throughout the series, so I have to vote for that.

message 16: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu I am really hoping that Dresden will make a come back and win.

message 17: by Jon (new)

Jon I'm still cheering on Honor. Since I'm a fairly new Nook Color owner, I'm excited at the prospect of acquiring this entire series in ebook format for less than what I would if I bought them as 'new' paperbacks. Baen provides the first two in the series free and the others at $5 (or $6 for the last couple of recent releases).

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides Incidentally, all the Honor books can be found here. (This site provides the contents of the discs that are distributed with the hardcovers of certain Baen titles. My understanding is that it has Baen's blessing.)

Sweet!

I bought the hardcover of Cryoburn just so I could have all the Vorkosigan Saga (except Memory) in ebook format.

message 20: by Deedee (new)

Deedee I voted for the Honor series because I think that there will be more discussion with it than with Dresden.

message 21: by Candiss (new)

Candiss Whoo, boy...it's getting close. Whichever series wins may well do so by only a vote or 2! Whatever will we do if they tie?

message 22: by M (last edited Jul 14, 2011 02:29PM) (new)

M I almost never vote on goodreads polls, but i have to vote for Dresden

message 23: by Ken (new)

Ken grrr Hard Decision....
Hard I tell ya

Going with Honor I think. I tried to restart reading Dresden and couldn't get into it.

message 24: by Richard (new)

Richard Good job. Just downloaded the entire Honor series from Stefan's link on to my iPad. Look forward to starting out with the group on this one.

message 25: by Kara (new)

Kara Honestly, the Honor series sounds more complex... I thought both sounded like good reads so didn't vote. I'm happy to see that my library has them, as well as the first four in audio. (I'm not the fastest reader, but have found recently that listening to audio along with reading the book can actually be quite fun).
