“don’t think that true love means your only love.

I think true love means loving truly.

    Loving purely. Loving wholly.

Maybe, if you’re the kind of person who’s willing to give all of yourself, the kind of person who is willing to love with all of your heart even though you’ve experienced just how much it can hurt . . . maybe you get lots of true loves, then. Maybe that’s the gift you get for being brave.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, One True Loves

    Tarryn Fisher
“That was the exact moment my heart threaded with hers. It was as if someone reached down with a sewing needle and stitched my soul to hers. How could one woman be so sharp and so vulnerable at the same time? Whatever would happen to her would happen to me. Whatever pain she would feel, I would feel it too. I wanted it — that was the surprising part. Selfish, self centered Caleb Drake loved a girl so much he could already feel himself changing to accommodate her needs.
    I fell.
    Hard.
For the rest of this life and probably the next.
I wanted her — every last inch of her stubborn, combative, catty heart.”
    Tarryn Fisher, Thief

    S.C. Stephens
“I think in the end, you would have stayed with me, out of obligation...or maybe comfort. Maybe I was safe to you, and you needed to feel that. I know how scared you get of the unknown. To you...I must be kind of a security blanket. Do you see now, how that doesn't work for me? I don't want to be there, simply because the idea of me being gone is too...scary. I want to be someone's everything. I want fire and passion, and love that's returned, equally. I want to be someone's heart... Even if it means breaking my own.”
    S.C. Stephens, Thoughtless

    John Green
“The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive.”
    John Green, Looking for Alaska

    John Green
“Someday no one will remember that she ever existed, I wrote in my notebook, and then, or that I did. Because memories fall apart, too. And then you're left with nothing, left not even with a ghost but with its shadow. In the beginning, she had haunted me, haunted my dreams, but even now, just weeks later, she was slipping away, falling apart in my memory and everyone else's, dying again.”
    John Green, Looking for Alaska

    Colleen Hoover
“Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passion. If you don't have questions, you'll never find answers.”
    Colleen Hoover, Slammed

    Colleen Hoover
“I've never regretted it. Questioned it? Sure. But never regretted."

"Is there a difference?" I ask.

"Absolutely. Regret is counterproductive. It's looking back on a past that you can't change. Questioning things as they occur can prevent regret in the future. I questioned a lot about my relationship with your father. People make spontaneous decisions based off of their hearts all the time. There's so much more to relationships than just love.”
    Colleen Hoover, Slammed

    “Butterfly.
    What a beautiful word
    What a delicate creature.
Delicate like the cruel words that flow right out of your mouths and the food that flies right out of your hands…
Does it make you feel better?
Does it make you feel good ?
Does picking on a girl make you more of a man?
Well, I’m standing up for myself
Like I should have done before
I’m not putting up with your Butterfly anymore."
(Kiersten slides the sack off her wrist and opens it, pulling out a handful of hand-made butterflies. She takes the microphone out of the stand and begins walking down the stairs as she continues speaking.)
“I’d like to extend to others what others have extended to me.”
(She walks up to Mrs. Brill first and holds out a butterfly)
    “Butterfly you, Mrs. Brill.”
(Mrs. Brill smiles at her and takes the butterfly out of her hands. Lake laughs out loud and I have to nudge her to get her to be quiet. Kiersten walks around the room, passing out butterflies to several of the students, including the three from the lunchroom.)
    “Butterfly you, Mark.
    Butterfly you, Brendan.
    Butterfly you, Colby.”
(When she finishes passing out the butterflies, she walks back onto the stage and places the microphone back into the stand.)
“I have one thing to say to you
And I’m not referring to the bullies
    Or the ones they pursue.
I’m referring to those of you that just stand by
The ones who don’t take up for those of us that cry
Those of you who just…turn a blind eye.
After all it’s not you it’s happening to
You aren’t the one being bullied
And you aren’t the one being rude
It isn’t your hand that’s throwing the food
But…it is your mouth not speaking up
It is your feet not taking a stand
It is your arm not lending a hand
    It is your heart
    Not giving a damn.
    So take up for yourself
    Take up for your friends
I challenge you to be someone
    Who doesn’t give in.
    Don’t give in.
    Don’t let them win.”
    Colleen Hoover, Point of Retreat

    J.D. Salinger
“It's funny. All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to.”
J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

    Ray Bradbury
“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
    Ray Bradbury

    John Steinbeck
“We know what we got, and we don't care whether you know it or not.”
John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men

    Jodi Picoult
“If you want something to be true badly enough, you can rewrite it that way, in your head. You can even start to believe it.”
    Jodi Picoult, Vanishing Acts

  • #13
    Jodi Picoult
“I could tell her from personal experience that when people we love make choices we don't always understand them. But we can go on loving them, just the same. It isn't a matter of comprehension. It's forgiveness. But all this took me a lifetime to discover, and where has it gotten me?... Some lessons can't be taught, they simply have to be learned.”
    Jodi Picoult, Vanishing Acts

    Chevy Stevens
“It's an old church and smells like a museum - in a good way, a survived-lots-of-shit-and-still-standing kind of way. Something about the stained-glass windows works for me too. If I were to get all deep on you, I could say the idea of all those broken pieces being made into something so damn pretty appeals to me. Good thing I'm not that profound. (54)”
    Chevy Stevens, Still Missing

    Emily Brontë
“He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
    Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

  • #16
    Katja Millay
“People like to say love is unconditional, but it's not, and even if it was unconditional, it's still never free. They always want something in return. Like they want you to be happy or whatever and that makes you automatically responsible for their business because they won't be happy unless you are. You're supposed to be who they think you're supposed to be and feel how they think you're supposed to feel because they love you and when you can't give them what they want, they feel shitty, so you feel shitty, and everybody feels shitty. I just don't want that responsibility.”
Katja Millay, The Sea of Tranquility

"I’m getting ready for when there is.”

    Rebecca Donovan
“We were engaged in a very intricate dance of touching without touching, knowing without saying, and feeling without expressing.”
    Rebecca Donovan, Reason to Breathe

    Tarryn Fisher
“What’s the difference?” I asked him. “Between the love of your life, and your soulmate?”
“One is a choice, and one is not.”
    Tarryn Fisher, Mud Vein

    Colleen Hoover
“I’m not Tate when I’m near Miles. I’m liquid, and liquid doesn’t know how to be firm or stand up for itself. Liquid flows. That’s all I want to do with Miles.

    Flow.”
    Colleen Hoover, Ugly Love

    Fisher Amelie
“I was not staring at you,” he told his plate.
I leaned over. “Did you hear that, Dingane’s lunch? He was not staring at you.”
He looked up at me crossly. “I was not staring at you.”
    “I never said you were.”
“I was merely explaining that Henry was exaggerating. I did not stare at you.”
“Okay,” I stated, implying in my tone that he had done just that.
    “I didn’t. I-I wasn’t.”
“I believe you,” I told him
“I may have looked at you a few times to make sure you were doing your job.”
    “Oh, I see then.”
    “But I certainly wasn’t staring.”
“We’ve established that you were not staring.”
He breathed deeply a few times, his eyes burning into mine. “Good.”
    He’d definitely been staring.”
    Fisher Amelie, Vain

    Colleen Hoover
“I barely know you, so I’m not about to argue with you over your level of intelligence, because you could very well be as dumb as a rock. But at least you’re pretty.”
    Colleen Hoover, November 9

    Taylor Jenkins Reid
“I’m just going to do my best and live under the assumption that if there are things in this life that we are supposed to do, if there are people in this world we are supposed to love, we’ll find them. In time. The future is so incredibly unpredictable that trying to plan for it is like studying for a test you’ll never take. I’m OK in this moment.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Maybe in Another Life

    Anthony Doerr
“It's embarrassingly plain how inadequate language is.”
Anthony Doerr, All the Light We Cannot See

  • #28
    Tarryn Fisher
“You shouldn’t have to convince anyone to choose you. There is no real choice in love.”
    Tarryn Fisher, F*ck Love

  • #29
    Tarryn Fisher
“Don’t be upset that you can’t attain constant happiness. It’s the quickest way to feel like a failure in life. If each of our lives represented a page in a book, happiness would be the punctuation. It breaks up the parts that are too long. It closes off some things, divides others. But it’s brief—showing up when it’s needed and filling tired paragraphs with breaks.”
    Tarryn Fisher, F*ck Love

  • #30
    Tarryn Fisher
“There is only war in love,” he says. “If anyone tells you otherwise, they’re lying. The constant fight to keep love relevant, while growing and changing as a human, is the battle. You fight for them, fight to keep them, fight to love them. Do you fight for yourself, or do you fight for the relationship? What can’t you live without? There’s your answer.”
    Tarryn Fisher, F*ck Love
