Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Remember what I just said about the crazy weather here? I just looked outside and we got 4 inches of snow in less than an hour.

That sounds like Oklahoma! A couple of weeks ago, it was in the 70s, it snowed the next day, was melted the day after that, and back into the 70s on the 4th day.

It's been getting really warm here lately (like in the 80s), which isn't unheard of here, but it usually doesn't jump up and stay up quite so early. It's also been really, really windy here. So windy that one of my window screens blew off and I can hear the wind whistling from inside.

message 103: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I've also been rather disappointed with our lack of big thunderstorms and tornado watches/warnings. That's my favorite part of spring.

message 104: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Anna, What a great way to make lemonade out of lemons! I'm sort of the opposite: When it's nice out, I want to play, but when it's really stormy out, I want to lie in bed and read or watch the storm.

message 105: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments We had a big thunderstorm last night, some places close to me had a few tornado watches, but it didn't turn into anything bad...Today is a beautiful day though, I'm going to have to do some homework outside I think!

message 106: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker We had a nice little storm last night. I kept the blinds open so I could see the lightning better. It was so relaxing to go to sleep listening to the rain! I'm hoping for more (and bigger) storms in the future. There's nothing like watching a huge storm roll over town!

message 107: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie We haven't had any tornado watches or warnings this year at all... which is really really strange, b/c we ALWAYS have at least one and usually several. The other seniors and I were lamenting it, b/c it just wouldn't be the same if we graduate w/o having a tornado this semester!

message 108: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I know what you mean Lynn. I've been really disappointed with our lack of big storms.

message 109: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments It really isn't fair. We get the nicest weather of the year and I'm stuck inside all day doing homework! It's 72 degrees outside and I have 6 essays to write!

message 110: by BurgendyA (new)

BurgendyA | 37 comments Today in my area was sunny, but with a chilly air blowing. We had other warm and hot days before. These past few day were cool & rain abit. I am not surprise since April is the month that rains the most.

Like that old saying April showers for May flowers. =)~

message 111: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker My mom was noticing that one side of our house with ferns and hostas had just exploded in green-ness since it has been raining over the past couple of days. (But it's just been a piddly rain; no lightning or anything) I think we have a growing chance of some good storms towards the end of the week.

Has anyone else gone storm chasing with friends?

message 112: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am hearing all about tornadoes and flooding from family back east, so if any of you are affected, Hang in there. It sucks when weather turns deadly.

Lori, not really a storm chasing story, but when we were in high school, we would go out to the fields when it rained at night and drove with only our hazards on. Creepy. Stupid things highschool kids do. :)

message 113: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Tami, That sounds fun! I kind of miss high school because you could do stupid things like that. If you do that stuff now, it's just "irresponsible."

We still haven't had any fantastic storms. I'm really disappointed! We have had some really cool looking cloud formations and coloring though. But it's not the same!

message 114: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments We've been having storms none stop. I love them, but I'm getting tired of the humid weather already. A few nights ago we had a bad thunderstorm. Luckily nothing bad occurred, just a really loud storm. I feel really bad for the people in Tennessee though!

message 115: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments There was hail around here all day. I'll admit it was better than yesterday, when it was 97. My best friend is in Scotland though and says it's in the low 30s in the afternoon, I don't know which extreme I'd take haha

message 116: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Lori (and any others that are in Oklahoma) I am going to lump the whole state together. :) Are you okay? the tornado that hit, was it close? Let us know.

message 117: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker The storm split. Half of it went about fifty miles north (to my grandparents house in Bartlesville) and didn't produce any tornadoes. The other half was about fifty miles south of Tulsa and it did some damage. The lucky thing is that it didn't hit any cities. It mainly stuck to farmland, highways, and trailer parks. But everyone who grows up in Oklahoma has heard that you don't stay in a vehicle or mobile home during a tornado. However, not everyone listens to this advice.

All we got in Tulsa was about fifteen minutes (maybe less) of some medium-hard rain and the wind picked up a bit. The topographical makeup of the land around Tulsa makes most storms go north and/or south. We haven't had a tornado actually hit Tulsa since spring of 1992 (I got a souvenir piece of stain glass from the church that was ruined, which I still have).

message 118: by BurgendyA (new)

BurgendyA | 37 comments Sofar in my area it a tiny bit nippy with a cool breeze in the night. Sometimes in the daytime. For example; this past saturday it was really windy all day long. =)~

message 119: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
We are not a flat place, but we have been getting horrible winds the last few weeks. I am sure if we didn't have our mountains, we would have tornadoes. Last week, we hit 70+ mph, but up North they recorded 103 mph winds. I hate the wind almost as much as I hate snow.

message 120: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Last night (I guess it was really this morning) the power blinked off, then on, then off again. With the second blink off, the tornado sirens started going off. I grabbed some stuff (pillows, nook, teddy, jacket, purse, in case you're curious) and headed downstairs. Since the power was off, we had no idea if there was actually a tornado. I called my grandparents to see if they could check, then I headed upstairs for the battery operated weather radio. Shortly after I found it, the sirens were off.

As it turned out, there was no tornado, just really high winds that set off the sirens. We finally got out power back on at 10:30 this morning. And I'm disappointed that I missed getting to watch the storm because I was running errands. :(

message 121: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I am in Virginia right now visiting some family, and it must be 40 degrees currently. Is that normal for May? It's seriously freaking me out, all I packed are tank tops and shorts!

message 122: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) yesterday it was 92 degrees... actually pretty normal for the beginning of Summer here.

Then this morning I walked out in shorts and a tank top and it was raining & freezing!! Ok well by freezing I mean 60 degrees... but that was a shock compared to yesterday!

message 123: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Ashley, where are you? I wish it were constantly warm here in Massachusetts. The weather is being really fickle lately.

message 124: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Bleh. The weather here has been as weird as usual. It was really rainy over the weekend (or so I heard, I wasn't here) today it was in the 80's and tomorrow it's supposed to be rainy all day and a high of 60. :-P

message 125: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) Tahleen I'm from Fresno, CA. It does get cold in the winter but in the Summers it can get up to 115 degrees... and stay there lol. But I have to admit.. I would much rather live in the heat than the cold

message 126: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I say I'd rather live in the heat, but I've never actually done that so I can't say I've experienced it. I really do hate the cold, but I like having our New England autumn. I think I just need to go somewhere that doesn't get TOO cold. Or has a short winter.

message 127: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker It's been cold (60s and low 70s if we're lucky) here lately too. But it's supposed to be back up in the upper 80s by the end of the week.

message 128: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen And that's when I laugh... when cold is in the 60s.

message 129: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker It feels cold when you've gotten used to it being in the 80s. You walk out and say, "Woah! I need a light jacket."

message 130: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I know, I say that out of jealousy.

message 131: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Yesterday we had hail here, twice! Which sucks, cause it's supposed to be sunny and warm around this time.. I'm very jealous of 60s is cold too!

message 132: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I seem to feel cold even up to the 80's. :) Give me the 115 any day.

message 133: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) It's been maxing out at 50 or so for the past several days. Well, we had a nice day over the weekend, but before that it was a week of cold and rain. This week is basically doing the same thing it did last week. It's so COLD and rainy! I want summer! I've been feeling so restless because I've been stuck in the house!

message 134: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Well! We got some action last night! We knew the storm was coming. It was so cool to watch the sky get progressively darker with clouds. Then the lightning started up. At one point, when the lightning flashed the sky was a really cool green color. We could hear the sirens from one of the suburbs. Then a tornado dropped about 4 miles from our house. It was such a cool night. I got a few pictures but video would have been much better (at a point it just looked like I was photographing the night sky). Then my mom said the lightning was too bad and we needed to go inside.

We had an earthquake this morning. It was relatively small, 3.4 I think they said and it was centered a few miles out of town where there really isn't a lot of buildings.

I didn't even feel it, but I was at a clients and a picture fell off the wall. :) When I went home at lunch one of the frames on our entertainment center had fallen over too. So far, the worse thing I have heard is some large tree branches falling. Hopefully everyone is okay.

Thats crazy! Wasn't there an earthquake in Southern California recently too?

It's been in the 100's here. Crazy heat wave! I like the heat but 80-90 is ideal for me. Anything past 95 is just hellish. I can't even lay out!

message 137: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I think so on Southern Cal, but you expect them there. :)

We haven't been under 100 for more than a month, except maybe a day or two, but we don't have any humidity.

message 138: by Adriana (new)

Adriana | 188 comments It is so hot outside just checked and its 101. During the whole summer it has been in the 70's and low 80's. All of a sudden it go hot yesterday and today. I hate the hot weather I like it cold :)

message 139: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Haha Adriana it is the OPPOSITE here. It's been in the 80's and 90's, then all of a sudden the temperature dropped and it's cold and rainy here in Massachusetts.

message 140: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Our weather has continued to prove ridiculous here. It was way up in the 100s, then it dropped to the high 60s one day last week, got back to the 100s, and then was in the 70s today. Seriously, if you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait 5 minutes.

message 141: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Is anyone on the East coast being affected by Hurricane Earl? It's supposed to hit around me tomorrow night. We've been issued a tropical storm warning, so hopefully that won't turn into a hurricane warning!

message 142: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Yeah, we're supposed to get rain and our state (MA) is in a state of emergency, but I'm really not worried. I don't think it will be much more than rain and a lot of wind.

message 143: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments It's finally raining after what feels like 100days without it. At last, I can sit inside all day and read and not feel ashamed of not being outside lol

message 144: by Janet (new)

Janet Kelly- where do you live, if you don't mind me asking? Because we just got rain in what feels like forever!! But I agree. It's sometimes a really nice thing when it rains! :)

message 145: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments I don't mind at all, I live in Indiana actually. We've been having record heat all summer, the trees here look horrible, because they didn't get any rain. It makes me sad because I love the colors of fall, but it doesn't look like we'll get them this year.

message 146: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments SNOW DAY!!

Ok, so they only canceled the night classes, and I don't have a night class on Tuesday but it's still kinda fun. They're deciding whether or not they are going to cancel classes tomorrow. And it hasn't even snowed yet! They're predicting the worst snow storm in seven years, it's supposed to hit us anytime now.

message 147: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Kimberly, that happened to me this past February, they were predicting a horrible snowstorm in Boston and the surrounding area. They closed the college in anticipation that the snow would be impassable, but guess what? No snow. :) I didn't have to go to class, and it was for no reason. Awesome.

message 148: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
They said this storm is supposed to hit us down here too. I hope it doesn't, not a fan of the white stuff. It looks icky out there though. We haven't even frozen yet, and the low tonight is supposed to be 13. Our lowest before that was 33. I am such a baby too, I have to have heat!

message 149: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) ugh freak cold weather has hit west coast. No snow where I am but I have to get over a mountain (and through the snow) to get home and the mountain isn't safely passable so I am stuck for holiday. I have a back-up family but they aren't as good as real thing. Also it is freezing here they are predicting 20 degrees this evening and I have to walk home from class at 9:30. I just wanted to whine a little.

message 150: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I wouldn't be whining, I would throw a full out tantrum! I am sorry your travel plans were messed up.

We did not get snow, so YAY! Well, it was flurrying a bit this morning but nothing like what we were supposed to get. It is white all around us though. Everyone stay safe, especially if you are traveling through these storms.
